Just after officially unveiling the game at this year’s Gamescom Cologne, miHoYo, the team behind Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, once again reached out to share more gameplay details about their new title, Source of Origin, and confirmed a wealth of information regarding the game’s operations and business model.

In an interview with PC Gamer, the development team revealed that Primordial Bond will adopt the free-to-play model, just like their previous releases. However, miHoYo appears to have no intention of including the gacha mechanic found in titles such as Genshin Impact; instead, characters in the game will be unlocked through different methods.

According to the miHoYo team, *Primordial Bond* is a free-to-play live-service game, and the only details they can share at the moment are that characters will be unlocked through continued play. Additional character skins and outfits will serve as a major revenue stream for the title.
From the first trailer revealed at Gamescom, players could already see many key details and features tied to Origin’s Knot. The biggest highlight is that this title completely abandons the Japanese animation style of past miHoYo works, adopting a more realistic art design.
In the currently public official website, miHoYo mentions that the main storyline of *Primordial Knot* revolves around a world where “divine authority and order have both collapsed,” and players will take on the role of a group known as the “Weavers,” fighting alongside companions against the bizarre creatures that roam the world. As players progress through the game, they will gradually explore various new regions, each of which will have its own unique history, culture, and ecosystem.
Ever since Origin’s Knot was unveiled, many players have seen echoes of FromSoftware’s well-known titles like Elden Ring and Dark Souls, as well as Capcom’s Monster Hunter, in the trailer’s characters and the overall art style of the game’s world. There are even designs that are strikingly similar across the board—such as a female enemy with enormous wings who closely resembles Malenia, the “Valkyrie” from Elden Ring, while a translucent, soul-like figure wielding a massive axe brings Godfrey to mind, and a winged lion with antennae is akin to Teostra from Monster Hunter.

However, miHoYo officials emphasized that the creature and enemy designs in “Origin’s Knot” all come from real-world myths and legends, including giant dragons that symbolize the arrival of calamity, and ancient beasts deeply rooted in Eastern folklore.
It is worth mentioning that the Weaver controlled by the player doesn’t have to face these enormous challenges alone, because just like in Monster Hunter, cooperative multiplayer combat will be one of the core gameplay modes of The Origin Knot, allowing players to form their own companion squads to take on the game’s giant beasts and various monsters.
Besides providing additional fire support in combat, these companions can also assist players in other ways, such as synergizing with the player’s own spells and abilities, and creating more tactical options for players to use. After defeating these massive enemies, players can obtain a wealth of resources and experience points, allowing them to further refine and deepen their playstyle, including crafting new equipment and unlocking new abilities, resulting in nearly endless tactical variety.
At present, miHoYo has not yet announced the release date or platforms for “The Primordial Knot,” but based on the first officially revealed footage, the game is likely targeting PC and home console platforms. As for mobile, only some newer or high-end models may be able to run it smoothly.
