Although Xiaomi has been selling home appliances in Taiwan for many years—such as robot vacuums, smart displays, vacuum cleaners, rice cookers, and air purifiers—the Xiaomi washing machine that many people were waiting for had no news for a long time. Now, finally, Xiaomi Taiwan has officially announced its arrival, and the “Mi Smart Front-Load Washing Machine Pro” is about to go on sale. A few days ago, Xiaomi Taiwan’s official fan page already teased that a washing machine was about to debut, though they didn’t reveal which model at the time—one could only guess based on its appearance. With the recent launch event details now public, it’s been confirmed that the “Mi Home Smart Front-Load Washing Machine Pro” is the first Xiaomi washing machine to be introduced in Taiwan.
There are quite a few new Xiaomi products launching this time. Besides the washing machine, there’s also the REDMI Note 17 series, REDMI Watch 6 Lite and 6 Active, Xiaomi Smart Band 11 Active, as well as the Mijia Cordless Vacuum Cleaner 4 Pro/4/4C and Mijia Cordless Floor Washer 5 Pro. They will all be unveiled at the online livestream launch event on August 28 at 12:30, with official sales starting at 13:30 that same day.
The reservation period for the “Mijia Smart Drum Washing Machine Pro” runs from 10:00 on August 19 to 8:00 on August 28, but reservations for the washing machine don’t come with any free gifts—only the REDMI Note 17 series gets those, since it’s the main event. For the REDMI Note 17 series, reserving and then purchasing during the first sale not only enters you in a lucky draw, but also gives you a bonus Xiaomi Bluetooth Speaker Essential (limited quantities, available while supplies last).
As for specifications, the model sold in Taiwan is WD125MJA12TW, with the suffix TW, so it has been revised for Taiwan, with the rated voltage changed to 110-120V and frequency 60Hz.
This Mijia Smart Front-Load Washer Pro supports washing, spinning, and drying; the washing capacity is 12.5 kg, drying is 8 kg, the maximum spin speed is 1400 rpm, the rated power for washing and drying is 950 W each, the dimensions are 598 x 610 x 850 mm, and the net weight is 71 kg.
The only color available is Star Satin Silver. The official also provides installation clearance recommendations: at least 20mm at the top, 15mm on each side, and 30mm at the rear.
The washing time and automatic dispensing are this model’s standout features. The deep smart wash cycle takes 52 minutes, the quick wash takes 12 minutes, and the one-touch wash + dry is touted at 59 minutes. Of course, these times come with conditions—for instance, the 52-minute and 12-minute cycles are for small loads of 1 to 2 kg. It features “dual automatic dispensing,” with separate compartments for detergent and fabric softener, and it automatically determines the dosage based on the sensed weight of the laundry. According to the official specs, one fill lasts about a month. The ratios can also be adjusted in the Mi Home app—for example, increase the amount for dirtier clothes or decrease it for lightly soiled items.
In terms of energy efficiency, compared with the Mijia 10.5kg washer-dryer (model WD105MJA10MY), using Smart Wash mode reduces washing time by 44%, water usage by 20%, and electricity consumption by 43%.
The drum diameter is 525mm, paired with a direct drive motor, which eliminates the belt transmission assembly, so in theory both wear and operating noise should be lower.
Xiaomi says that the Mi Home Smart Drum Washing Machine Pro uses high-temperature steam molecules, achieving a sterilization rate of up to 99.99%, a mite removal rate of 100%, and a virus removal rate of 99.99%. These figures are based on data measured using the built-in cleaning cycle.
Meanwhile, steam also enables several practical features: “Fresh Care” uses gentle steam to remove odors and wrinkles, suitable for 1 to 3 lightweight garments; “Aroma Wash” pours fragrance liquid directly into the drum, using low-temperature scented steam to let the scent linger in the fibers (the official note specifically reminds not to use fragrance liquids containing alcohol); and Fresh Anti-crease, where if clothes aren’t taken out within 30 minutes after washing, the drum automatically gives a spin to prevent musty smells.
For washer-dryer machines, lint accumulation and dryer duct cleaning have always been important parts of ongoing maintenance. The Mijia Smart Front-Load Washer-Dryer Pro switches to a water-flow lint collection system, using a water curtain to trap suspended lint. The fan blades are rinsed clean by high-pressure water flow without requiring disassembly, and the dryer duct uses waterfall-style flushing to wash away lint and dust.
In the Mi Home app, users can schedule and adjust settings remotely. The “AI Laundry Expert” automatically recommends wash cycles based on usage habits and remembers settings, while “My Time” lets you specify wash time, water temperature, and number of rinses. The washing machine’s control panel has also been upgraded from traditional knobs to a touchscreen that supports multiple languages, and there is also a drum light, 24-hour delayed start, and the ability to add clothes mid-cycle. Firmware updates will continue to provide new features and new wash cycles, with both the app and the panel updating in sync.
As for the price and warranty, they haven’t been announced yet; we’ll have to wait until after the launch event.
