YouTube app brings “real picture-in-picture” picture-in-picture support, and the Android version is being tested
Although for the paid subscription service content of YouTube Premium, what most people like most is the “premium experience” that is ad-free and can be played in the background. However, there are probably many people who are attracted by the convenient playback functions of PiP/picture-in-picture/picture-in-picture functions – it’s really convenient!
Now, foreign media have discovered that YouTube seems to have more functional ideas for the picture-in-picture screen for the Android version.

Foreign media Android Police found that in the past, in the YouTube app, many people were accustomed to using the “swipe down/swipe down” gesture on the video being played to put the video in a drawer, but it would still continue to play in the form of a mini play bar. It has now been transformed into a picture-in-picture playback interface that is very similar to the picture-in-picture playback interface that YouTube Premium users can use after jumping out of the app.
In short, after getting such an experience, whether you jump out of the app or swipe down the video through gestures. Basically, as long as it is in the playback state, it will be displayed with a unified picture-in-picture interface.

This can be called an update to the complete YouTube picture-in-picture experience. Basically, “in-app” can also support usage methods including zooming in and out of the suspended video playback interface, and dropping videos on the upper and lower edges of the screen.
The author actually tested the Pixel 7 Pro in my hand, but unfortunately I still haven’t received this feature. According to information from foreign media, in addition to being updated to version 19.29.37, it is also mentioned that this should be a test function that needs to be activated on the server side by YouTube.

However, it is said that this picture-in-picture experience is similar to the experience of jumping out of the app during playback. But if we look carefully, we will find that the information bar and play button that were listed at the same time in the mini player in the app will still appear at the bottom of the picture-in-picture screen. The arrangement is also different from the previous mini-player, which is displayed in a strip across the left and right of the screen.
To be honest, after seeing this interface change, I personally feel that YouTube should want to unify the “in-app” and “out-of-app” playback experiences. It’s also unclear if this is a Premium subscription feature. “If” not, then perhaps this experience can be regarded as YouTube’s deliberate way of allowing free users to try convenient playback functions such as picture-in-picture on a limited basis.
I wonder if people will like it more and more as they use it and spend money to subscribe.
