YouTube celebrates its 17th birthday this year. Recently, it officially announced a series of updates to upgrade the appearance and functionality of the YouTube video player on various platform devices, bringing a cleaner and more lively interface design, a new dark theme appearance, adding ambient mode, supporting zoom video and other new player improvements.

YouTube brings new dark theme appearance, zoom video and other player improvements
Although YouTube has recently increased the subscription fees for overseas Premium members, it has also quietly launched a series of updates for the YouTube platform, and these updates will be pushed to users in the near future. First, the appearance of the new dark theme becomes darker, and dynamic color sampling is used to introduce a shimmer effect, so that the background color of the application can adapt to the video, and the color of the video is softly projected into the screen background, making the dark theme more immersive when watching videos.

In addition, YouTube video playlists will also use the same color treatment, while allowing each playlist to display more detailed information so that viewers can easily play the video.

Next is the player interface when the video is played in full screen. The YouTube link in the video description will be changed to a button, and the functional interface will be formatted for frequently operated functions, such as sharing and downloading functions, to reduce the chance of viewers being distracted while playing the video. Additionally, the subscribe button has been given a polish, with a new shape and high contrast to make it really stand out. Although the button is no longer red, it is easier to find, making it easier for users to navigate on watch pages and channel pages.
In addition, through the “pinch to zoom” function, users can easily enlarge and zoom the video screen on iOS or Android phones, and appreciate the local details of the video in more detail.

If you miss some wonderful moments during video playback, you can now solve this problem through the precise search function. When playing a YouTube video on either the desktop or mobile version, simply drag or swipe up while looking for a row of previews displayed in the video player to fine-tune the timeline to quickly switch to the exact clip of each video.

There is also a feature that was previously tested in YouTube Labs and is now officially open to all users. For the highlight clips of the video with the most viewers, users can display frequently played moments through a playback curve.

These new YouTube features will be rolled out to YouTube users around the world in the coming weeks. If you haven’t seen these new features when you open YouTube now, you might as well wait a moment! Maybe one day you can open YouTube and take advantage of these updates.
