I saw that the iPhone in the latest iOS 17 can already add various practical widget functions to the lock screen. It seems that it also inspired Google to put similar functions back into the Android system?

Foreign media Android Authority unearthed an interesting change in the recent Android 14 QPR2 Beta 3. It was discovered that a new “communal” space appeared in the lock screen interface of a specific device – it should be said that it is an Android tablet that supports a charging mode similar to the Nest Hub base.

When you enable the setting interface of this mode through gestures, you will see many familiar widgets appearing in it, and they can also be used in the lock page that will be added to the Android system later.

Foreign media shared that functions similar to locking screen widgets were actually regarded as the main function in Android 4.2 Jelly Bean long ago, but for some reason it was canceled in the subsequent Android 5.0.

Because of this, the Widgets that can be selected now are mostly original ones. This is mainly because there are probably very few modern apps left that can support the KEYGUARD module from the Jelly Bean era.

At present, it seems that only Pixel tablets have a better chance of getting support for this feature in subsequent official versions – in the future, there should be restrictions on the types of widgets that can be placed directly on the lock screen (after all, those with privacy concerns are obviously not suitable to be included in this screen?). In addition, it can be seen from the current experience that it is still in testing (there are still some problems with the arrangement of Widgets). In fact, it is not yet certain whether it will appear in the official version of the system in the future – will it appear until Android 15?

However, since this function currently seems to be biased towards large-screen tablets. Therefore, if you are looking forward to being able to have Widget display support on the lock screen of your Android smartphone in addition to the quick launch shortcut button, you may be a bit disappointed – it is generally speculated that Google may put At a Glance on the lock screen to achieve similar functions. I wonder if it really develops like this, will it meet everyone’s expectations?
