Are you still spending money on various courses to learn Claude? Many people don’t know that Anthropic actually launched it in March 2026. Anthropic AcademyConsolidate learning resources previously scattered across blogs, documentation, and GitHub into a single platform. All 13 courses are completely free and self-paced, with official certificates of completion upon finishing. From general users with no AI background to backend engineers building agent systems, everyone can find a learning path suited to their needs.

This isn’t just “another online course website” — Anthropic has bundled together usage guides for its entire product ecosystem (Claude API, Claude Code, MCP, and Cowork), paired with the Skilljar platform for progress tracking and certificate issuance. The goal is clear: lower the barrier to entry for Claude, turning more people from “having heard of Claude” to “knowing how to use Claude to get things done.”

Courses are divided into two major groups: general users vs. developers

The 13 courses are divided into two groups based on technical requirements: 6 require no coding and are suitable for everyone; 7 are for developers and require Python or CLI experience.

General User Path (6 steps)

  • Claude 101The perfect starting point for beginners. Learn how to use Claude to handle your daily work—writing emails, organizing data, analyzing documents, and drafting content. No technical background required. The core focus is on “how to communicate with AI to get useful results.” The course covers features like Projects, Artifacts, Skills, Connectors, Enterprise Search, and Research Mode.
  • Introduction to Claude CoworkCowork is Claude’s capability to directly operate your files, folders, and applications. The course covers Cowork’s task loop, Skills and Plugins, file and research workflows, and how to extend Claude to applications like Chrome and Word.
  • AI Fluency Series4-doorDeveloped in collaboration with Professor Joseph Feller from University College Cork in Ireland and Professor Rick Daken from Ringling College of Art and Design, centered around the “4E Framework”: Effective, Efficient, Ethical, and Safe.
    • Framework & FoundationsA Universal Guide: Frameworks over clicks — where AI’s capabilities end, which tasks to hand off to AI, and when human judgment is non-negotiable
    • For StudentsAcademic Research, Career Planning, Learning Strategies
    • For EducatorsIntegrating AI into Teaching, Curriculum Design, and Assessment Strategies
    • Teaching AI FluencyTeaching others how to use AI: scenario design and learning outcomes assessment

Developer Path (7 courses)

  • Building with the Claude APIA must-have course for developers. From your first API call to Agent system architecture. Covering API configuration and key management, multi-turn conversations and System Prompt design, Prompt Engineering (XML tag structure, Few-shot Learning), Tool Use (calling external functions you define with Claude), RAG (giving Claude access to your data), Extended Thinking and Prompt Caching, and Agent architecture (parallelization, routing, multi-step orchestration).
  • Claude Code 101Getting Started with Anthropic’s Agentic Coding Tools. The course covers installation (terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, Claude Desktop, web version), approval mode, Plan mode, the Explore→Plan→Code→Commit workflow, context management strategies, and custom instructions.
  • Claude Code in ActionAdvanced Practical Course. Focusing on daily development workflow integration—how tool systems interact with your codebase, context management strategies, custom instructions (automating repetitive tasks), MCP Server integration (connecting external tools like browser automation), and when to use Thinking Mode vs Planning Mode.
  • Introduction to Agent SkillsAgent Skills extend Claude Code’s capabilities through Markdown files (SKILL.md). This course teaches you the differences between Skills, CLAUDE.md, Hooks, and Subagents, how to write SKILL.md from scratch (frontmatter format, trigger condition descriptions), directory structure design (managing context window consumption), advanced configuration (restricting tool access, background scripts), and team sharing and enterprise deployment.
  • MCP Series (2-door)MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard released by Anthropic that enables AI agents to connect to external tools and data sources through a unified interface.
    • Introduction to MCPBuilding MCP Server and Client from Scratch in Python, Learning the Three Core Primitives (Resources, Tools, Prompts), and Using MCP Server Inspector for Testing and Debugging
    • MCP: Advanced TopicsIn-depth production environment topics, ideal for engineers deploying MCP Servers
  • Cloud Platform Courses (2):
    • Claude with Amazon BedrockDeploying Claude on AWS Bedrock, covering Tool Use, RAG, and Agent architecture
    • Claude with Google Vertex AIDeploying on GCP Vertex AI, with additional coverage of Vision, PDF processing, and Citations

Certification System: Course Completion ≠ Claude Certified Architect

Upon completing the course, you’ll receive an official Anthropic certificate of completion, but it’s important to note that this differs from Claude Certified Architect(CCA) These are two different things. Anthropic announced the CCA Foundations certification on March 12, 2026. This is a professional certification for solution architects and partners, and the exam difficulty is completely different from course completion.

Simply put: a course certificate proves you “took a class,” while CCA proves you’re “capable of designing production-grade Claude applications”—they have different value. So if an instructor claims to have an official Anthropic completion certificate, ask which type it actually is.

Suggested learning path: Choose your starting point based on your role

Anthropic Academy’s course catalog has grown from the initial 13 and continues to expand. Instead of scanning through everything, why not choose based on your role:

  • general userClaude 101 → AI Fluency Framework & Foundations → Claude Cowork. Three courses are enough for everyday use.
  • Developer (new to Claude Code)Claude Code 101 → Claude Code in Action → Building with the Claude API → MCP Series
  • Developers (with Claude Code experience)Start directly with Claude Code in Action, then supplement with API and MCP courses as needed.
  • Corporate teamOn the basis of the above, add Agent Skills courses and corresponding cloud platform courses (Bedrock or Vertex AI, depending on which one you use).

Summary

Anthropic Academy’s positioning is clear: use free education to lower the barrier for general users to enter the Claude ecosystem. The courses cover not just “how to use Claude,” but the entire developer toolchain, from API calls and Claude Code coding to MCP plugin integration and cloud deployment. This creates a three-way competitive landscape with OpenAI’s ChatGPT courses and Google’s AI Essentials, but Anthropic’s courses are notably deeper, especially in MCP and Agent Skills, which directly correspond to their product’s differentiated advantages. With 13 free courses plus official certificates, it’s a zero-cost AI skills investment for individual learners. Interested friends, go check it out soon.
