Developed by The Browser Company, the Arc browser made a high-profile debut in 2023 and quickly rose in the browser market thanks to its highly customizable interface, native ad blocker, and many practical features that broke with conventional thinking, earning it an excellent reputation and a loyal user base. However, the advance of the technology wave happens in an instant. After the company shifted its R&D focus to another new AI-centered project—the AI browser “Dia”—Arc’s fate was sealed. Now, The Browser Company has officially confirmed that Arc, once hailed as a “browser revolutionary,” will officially come to an end this year.

From innovation pioneer to bowing out amid the AI wave: the Arc browser is about to shut down, with Dia fully taking over.
In the official statement titled “A Farewell to Arc” published by The Browser Company founder Josh Miller, the company explicitly stated that the Arc browser will completely cease service later this year. Explaining why it is shutting down this flagship product, the company said that the explosive growth of artificial intelligence technology has profoundly changed the online environment and also brought more complex security threats, requiring the browser’s underlying architecture to support extremely frequent updates and strong responsiveness. Given that Dia was originally designed natively to meet the security and performance demands of the AI era, saying farewell to Arc became an unavoidable strategic choice in order to fully concentrate limited engineering and security team resources on improving Dia’s performance.

Although Arc is about to exit the stage of history, The Browser Company has positioned Dia as the best alternative. To reduce users’ switching costs, the official team is working hard to simplify the data migration process. In the future, Arc users will be able to easily transfer passwords, bookmarks, extensions, and history to Dia, and even Arc’s signature structures such as “Spaces,” “folders,” and “tab groups” will be fully synced to the new platform.

The browser company particularly emphasized that in multiple authoritative benchmark tests measuring software stability, performance, and security, Dia’s results have even comprehensively surpassed Arc. For users who prefer Arc’s classic experience, Dia offers a very similar browsing feel; and if you are not used to AI assistance or are concerned that native AI features may interfere with your daily workflow, Dia also provides highly flexible toggle options that allow users to disable AI assistance at any time.

To make the migration process go smoothly, the official team also announced a clear schedule for ending the service:
- From today onward
Arc will no longer allow any new accounts to be created. However, existing account holders can now export their personal data from Arc and seamlessly import it into Dia. - November 23
The Arc app on iOS and Android will lose its AI features and the “Browse for Me” feature. The desktop Arc search feature will still work at that time, but account login and tab syncing will no longer be available. - December 22
Arc will officially be removed from all app stores and completely cease operations. At that point, all Arc accounts will be deactivated, and users’ personal data will be fully deleted within 30 days after account deactivation.
