After using the iPhone 18 Pro Max for over a month, I can confidently say that upgrading from the iPhone 16 Pro is absolutely a worthwhile decision. Apple has once again demonstrated its hardware integration capabilities, packing numerous powerful features into such a compact body while still maintaining an excellent user experience. The 120Hz ProMotion display continues to deliver smooth and bright visuals, while the A20 Pro chip easily handles all my daily needs. Add the familiar iOS ecosystem and the nearly seamless integration with the MacBook, and overall I can hardly find any obvious shortcomings.

The design and build quality of the iPhone 18 Pro Max
After upgrading from iPhone 16 Pro to iPhone 18 Pro Max, my biggest takeaway isn’t actually an earth-shattering change, but rather a bit more refinement within familiarity. The overall design language hasn’t changed much, but the larger screen naturally brings more weight. I’ve always appreciated the premium feel that iPhone offers, and iPhone 18 Pro Max naturally continues this advantage. Whether held one-handed or used for long periods, it maintains a comfortable feel, fully meeting my expectations for a flagship phone. Although it is indeed slightly heavier, the larger screen brings more convenience in daily use.
In contrast, what catches the eye most is actually the new large camera module on the back. Its larger size and more prominent design make it highly recognizable, and compared with phones I’ve used in the past, it looks quite distinctive. At first I thought I’d need some time to get used to it, but in fact, the more I look at it, the more I like it—I even feel it adds a lot of personality to the overall appearance.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Performance and Battery Life
The iPhone 18 Pro Max is powered by Apple’s latest A20 Pro chip. After more than a month of use, I can confidently say that its performance is quite powerful. Interestingly, though, I wouldn’t really call myself a heavy user; my daily needs mostly center on social media, work apps, photography, and video and audio entertainment, and I don’t deliberately perform high-load tasks. Even so, the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s smoothness in everyday use is still impressive. Whether opening apps, switching between tasks in multitasking, or moving quickly between different workflows, it handles everything with ease. I often switch directly from recording video to replying to work messages, then jump back to photo editing or other apps, and throughout the whole process I can barely feel any delay or stutter.
Of course, everyday use alone wasn’t enough to satisfy my curiosity, so I also used benchmarking tools such as Geekbench 7 and AnTuTu to test the A20 Pro’s peak performance. I had expected the device to heat up noticeably under high-load testing, but the actual experience was better than I imagined. Only when running the AnTuTu test did I feel a more noticeable temperature rise around the camera module, but the overall feel in hand remained quite comfortable and didn’t affect the user experience.

The iPhone 18 Pro Max has maintained stable operation, with no throttling, lag, or other anomalies. For a phone focused on flagship performance, this is genuinely satisfying. And this is one of the things I consider most valuable about upgrading to the Pro series. Stronger hardware performance isn’t just reflected in benchmark numbers; it’s also a sense of reassurance during use. Now I hardly need to worry about whether my phone is capable of completing a certain task. I can just pick up the phone, immediately handle anything I want to do, and then continue with the rest of my schedule. I may not need the power of the A20 Pro every day, but that consistently smooth and always reliable experience is one of the reasons this upgrade has satisfied me most.
iPhone 18 Pro’s camera
If I had to name the feature I’m most looking forward to when upgrading from the iPhone 16 Pro to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, it would definitely be the camera system. To me, a phone is not just a communication tool; it’s also the camera I use most every day. Whether I’m capturing scenery while traveling, preserving memories at gatherings with friends, taking photos to share when enjoying good food, or simply seeing something interesting by chance on the street, my first instinct is almost always to immediately take out my phone and press the shutter. In addition, I also rely heavily on my phone for visual documentation at work, so having a stable and reliable camera system is especially important to me.

After using the iPhone 18 Pro Max for over a month, I can say with certainty that it is one of my most satisfying upgrades this year. The new main camera adds a variable aperture design, allowing the camera to control the amount of light more flexibly in different environments. Although this feature sounds very professional, I’m actually not the kind of person who likes to carefully adjust settings before every shot. Most of the time, I just want to quickly pick up my phone, point it at the scene in front of me, press the shutter, and get a satisfying photo. And the iPhone 18 Pro Max perfectly meets that need.

I especially enjoy shooting with the 48-megapixel main camera. As long as there is enough light, whether it’s landscapes, street scenes, or casual everyday snapshots, it delivers satisfying image quality. The photos have rich detail, natural and pleasing colors, and excellent dynamic range; even after cropping or zooming in for closer inspection, they still retain plenty of detail, and sometimes you can even discover small elements you didn’t notice when you took the shot.
Portrait mode also impressed me. Of these, I most often use the 2x zoom focal length because it provides a more natural perspective while not requiring me to get too close to the subject. The portraits it takes not only have better composition, but the skin tones are also quite natural and soft, facial details are fully preserved, and even when the background lighting is strong, the camera can effectively control the highlight areas. Overall image performance is very stable.
On the other hand, night and low-light shooting also impressed me quite a bit, especially since I often take photos at night. The main camera captures enough light while avoiding over-brightening the image, keeping photos in a natural atmosphere closer to what the naked eye sees. Color performance remains accurate, and details are well preserved, making nighttime photos look both clean and full of depth.

Of course, the iPhone 18 Pro Max’s camera is not without its flaws. When shooting fast-moving subjects, or using the telephoto lens in extremely dim environments, I can still notice some softness and noise in parts of the image. Although these situations occasionally affect image quality, they are not enough to ruin the overall experience.
For me, the biggest advantage of this camera system isn’t just how powerful the specs are, but its stability and reliability. Most of the time, I don’t need to try repeatedly, nor do I worry about missing a fleeting moment—I just raise the phone and press the shutter, and I get a high-quality photo. And this ability to “shoot casually and still look great” is exactly what I appreciate most about the iPhone 18 Pro Max camera.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Battery and Charging
Besides the camera, the battery life of the iPhone 18 Pro Max is one of the upgrades that surprised me most, especially after switching from the iPhone 16 Pro—the difference is even more striking. In the past, I was always especially conscious of my phone’s remaining battery, and before going out I habitually checked whether I had enough battery to get through a full day. But after upgrading to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, that battery anxiety has almost disappeared.
Based on my daily usage habits, I spend most of my time replying to messages, browsing social media, watching YouTube videos, and handling various work and life errands. Even so, the iPhone 18 Pro Max easily lasts a full day, and by evening it usually still has plenty of battery left. This peace of mind—not having to worry about the battery running out at any moment—has improved the experience a lot.
Even if I really run the battery down to almost empty, the charging speed is still satisfying. Based on my actual experience, the iPhone 18 Pro Max takes only about 45 minutes to charge from nearly 0% to 100%, which fits my lifestyle perfectly. I often plug in my phone before going out, and by the time I’ve gathered my things and am ready to leave, it’s almost back to full.
Longer battery life combined with faster charging not only reduces the inconvenience of daily use but also greatly improves overall convenience. Honestly, the actual experience this upgrade delivers has even exceeded my expectations, and it has become one of the reasons I like the iPhone 18 Pro Max the most.

The camera is one of my most satisfying upgrades. When I go out shooting, I often take hundreds of photos in one go, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max rarely disappoints. Whether it’s portrait photography, selfies, or low-light shooting, the image quality is mostly excellent. Of course, the telephoto lens still has room for improvement—especially at 8x zoom, where sharpness is slightly lacking—but for me, it’s still within an acceptable range.
Battery life is equally impressive, and it only takes about 45 minutes to fully charge. For a user like me who constantly moves between work apps, social media, photography tools, and various other apps, the iPhone 18 Pro Max offers almost the ideal all-around experience.
So, is the iPhone 18 Pro Max a phone with no drawbacks? Of course not. Auto-brightness adjustment still isn’t always accurate and can occasionally be a bit annoying; the camera system isn’t perfect either, and small flaws still occasionally show up. However, these shortcomings aren’t enough to affect my overall assessment of it. In fact, the longer I use it, the more I can feel the many improvements it brings over the previous generation. Honestly, I may not really need such powerful Pro-level performance, but every time I use it, I’m still satisfied by how smooth and stable it is. If you’re looking for a high-end iPhone that combines excellent camera performance, stable performance, great battery life, and a comfortable feel in hand, then I would recommend the iPhone 18 Pro Max without hesitation.
