Although it sparked much controversy at launch due to technical issues, CDPR’s sci-fi open-world RPG Cyberpunk 2077 has become a very complete and well-received title, even spawning a Netflix spin-off anime, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Additionally, players have created numerous mods for the game over the years, and just recently, a brand-new version of a third-person mod has officially emerged.
According to a gameplay video shown by Twitter user NieamArt, a modder named CybrDrake recently released a mod called “Immersive Third Person” on the Nexus Mods platform, adding a more complete third-person gameplay mode to Cyberpunk 2077, allowing players to appreciate Night City from a new perspective.
Notably, this is not the first mod to add a new perspective option for Cyberpunk 2077, but this time’s “Immersive Third PersonThe reason it has drawn so much attention from players is that the creator didn’t simply move the camera behind V and call it a day. Instead, they completely redesigned the entire perspective, substantially reworking many third-person-specific actions and animations so that the experience feels much closer to a native third-person game.
Previously, when players directly forced the camera into third-person view, V’s animations would come across as extremely stiff and awkward. To address this, CybrDrake introduced new animations in this mod for walking, jogging, sprinting, jumping, climbing, swimming, sliding, and vaulting over obstacles, along with idle animations and various details during movement. On top of that, players can freely switch between first-person and third-person views at any time. Since the animation systems for the two perspectives are independent of each other, switching back to first-person still preserves the original gameplay feel.
Additionally, the module includes a “smart auto-switching” feature that automatically switches back to first-person view during certain combat, driving, cutscenes, or interactions such as using terminals, and then restores the player’s original third-person perspective once the action is complete. In other words, this module doesn’t simply force Cyberpunk 2077 into third-person mode—it attempts to let the two perspectives coexist in the most natural way possible.
However, since this mod is still in development, much of its content is not yet polished. For example, male V’s third-person animations are currently not as complete as female V’s. According to the creator, most of female V’s animations were redone from scratch, while male V’s are currently mainly about fixing existing animations. In the future, they will continue to improve male V’s movement performance.
Considering that much of Cyberpunk 2077’s design is built around a first-person perspective, this brand-new mod is sure to offer players who have invested hundreds of hours a distinctly different gameplay experience.
