For people who often forget where they put important items, a new feature Google is bringing to Gemini could become a practical helper in everyday life. As Android updates roll out in September, Google has announced a series of new features, with the most attention going to Gemini’s new “item location memory” capability.
Gemini can now help you remember where you keep things.
The concept of this feature is quite simple. When users store important items in a specific location, they just tell Gemini the relevant information, such as “I put my passport in the bedroom drawer,” and can include a photo as supporting explanation. Gemini will then record this information and sync it to Android’s Find Hub for easy future reference.

Unlike Bluetooth trackers or smart tags, this feature doesn’t require buying any extra hardware, and there’s no need for pairing, charging, or regularly replacing batteries. For passports, IDs, contracts, or other important items that rarely move, this AI-based approach to remembering locations provides another management option.
In the future, when users forget where they placed an item, they can directly ask Gemini, such as asking about the location of a document or ID, and the system will provide an answer based on previously recorded information. Additionally, they can directly view the dedicated “Remembered Items” page in the “Find Center” to quickly browse all stored location information.
However, Google also emphasized that this feature is not essentially a real-time tracking system. Gemini does not actively detect an item’s current location; it simply records the information provided by the user. In other words, if an item is later moved and the user does not update the record, the system will still only display the originally entered location. Therefore, it is more like an intelligent digital memo rather than an actual location service.
Notably, this feature requires Android 16 or later, and is only available in regions where both Gemini and Find Center services are supported.

In addition to the item memory feature, this month’s Android update also brings several new experiences. One of them is the “Motion Aid” feature, which targets motion sickness that tends to occur when using a phone in a moving vehicle. The system displays a series of dynamic bubbles on the screen that change in sync with the vehicle’s movement, helping to keep visual and bodily perceptions aligned and reducing motion sickness discomfort.
Google is also continuing to enhance its accessibility experience. The upcoming “Guided Vision” feature is designed specifically for blind and low-vision users. By combining Gemini Live with a phone’s camera, the system can identify the surrounding environment in real time and describe what it sees via voice, including product packaging, restaurant menus, signs, or other text information, giving users a more complete picture of their surroundings.
In terms of communication and collaboration, Google Keep will also be further integrated into Google Messages. In the future, group chat members will be able to create and manage shared lists directly within the conversation window without switching to other apps, greatly improving the convenience of team collaboration and daily life management.
Additionally, Google Messages has added a chat themes feature, allowing users to set unique backgrounds and color styles for different conversations, further enhancing the personalized experience. According to Google, the chat themes and Keep integration features have started rolling out gradually, while other new features are expected to be pushed to eligible devices later this month.
Overall, while this September Android update doesn’t bring any groundbreaking major changes, Google is clearly trying to make AI integrate more naturally into daily life through continued enhancements to Gemini AI, accessibility services, and communication features—from remembering where items are stored to helping visually impaired users recognize their surroundings—further improving user convenience and the digital experience.
