On September 1, Dyson officially took its first step into oral care, launching the new Dyson CameraJet™ micro-camera water-jet electric toothbrush. A 1mm² macro lens is embedded beneath the brush head, combining AI real-time recognition and water-jet technology to integrate brushing, flossing, and rinsing—previously separate steps—into a single device. This marks Dyson’s first entry into the oral care field since its founding, backed by ten years of oral research and six years of product development.

Dyson’s entry point comes from a daily observation: most people spend far less time brushing their teeth than the two minutes dentists recommend, and the rate of regular flossing is even lower. According to Dyson’s internal survey, 9 out of 10 people do not floss at the recommended frequency. The separate, independent processes of brushing, flossing, and rinsing make complete oral care difficult to naturally integrate into daily habits. The collaboration of 661 engineers, 38 patent applications, and 30 dental professionals worldwide ultimately gave rise to the CameraJet™, putting the three actions of “rinse, brush, and flush” into a single toothbrush.

Plaque in the interdental gaps is the most easily overlooked area during daily brushing because it’s invisible to the naked eye. CameraJet™ features a 1mm² macro lens positioned beneath the brush head, paired with Gap Optical Targeting™ optical interdental positioning technology and Dyson AI intelligent algorithms to analyze 28 real-time images per second. From the lens capturing the gaps to the system completing recognition and activating the jet, the entire process takes as little as 0.1 seconds.

The machine’s machine learning model was trained on over 470,000 dental images during development. The arc-shaped lens, combined with LED stroboscopic lighting, captures clear details of the oral cavity even in low-light environments. When the toothbrush is in auto mode, the lens detects gaps between teeth and automatically activates the water jet, eliminating the need for users to manually align the device for interdental cleaning.

Once the gaps between teeth are identified, the next step is effectively removing the adhering plaque. Dyson conducted a five-year collaborative study with the Faculty of Dentistry at the National University of Singapore, analyzing the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of plaque, and developed its own specialized Proxy Plaque model to verify the cleaning effectiveness of the bristles and water jet.
While traditional needle-shaped water jets can penetrate simulated dental plaque, they struggle to overcome its adhesion for effective removal. Dyson instead uses a conical jet stream at a 21-degree angle, reaching deeper between teeth with a broader water coverage that distributes force evenly across the plaque surface to help detach and flush it away. Each spray releases a metered amount of about 0.11 to 0.15 ml of mouthwash, with a lower-pressure design that reduces irritation to gums and enamel.

Variable-frequency sonic vibration: keeps bristles in dynamic contact
In terms of brushing, Dyson engineers observed through slow-motion imaging that electric toothbrush bristles may stall when contacting tooth surfaces at certain vibration frequencies, affecting cleaning efficiency. CameraJet™ employs variable-frequency sonic vibration technology, continuously changing the brushing angle to keep bristles in dynamic contact, reaching deep into hard-to-access areas of the mouth. According to Dyson laboratory testing, in the variable-frequency vibration mode with brushing only, it can remove up to 69% more plaque in hard-to-clean oral areas compared to other premium electric toothbrushes on the market.

The brush head features a dual-bristle design: the inner, firmer blue bristles remove surface stains from teeth, while the outer, soft green bristles gently clean along the gum line. The bristles are arranged according to the three-dimensional contours of the mouth, with a silicone backing for shock absorption. The brush head has built-in RFID to track usage and remind you when it’s time to replace it.

Anti-gravity water tank: stable water supply at all angles
To ensure stable water flow even when reaching deep into back teeth or the inner surfaces of teeth, the CameraJet™ features a 12.5 ml anti-gravity capsule water tank. Its expandable diaphragm design, crafted from medical-grade silicone, draws in air and expands during filling, then uses the compressed air to maintain a steady water stream during use. Whether held upright, tilted, or inverted, it delivers full-angle spraying, and the diaphragm jet pump completes a metered spray in just 0.1 seconds.

MyDyson App: Visualize Your Teeth Cleaning Process
CameraJet™ supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, enabling real-time synchronization of oral images captured by the lens to the MyDyson™ App. The app provides guided cleaning, brushing and interdental cleaning insights, cleaning coverage records, and personalized feedback to help users identify areas that are often overlooked. The macro lens operates only when live viewing or the auto-spray function is enabled; images are not stored on the device or in the cloud.
