Gemini Live just received a major update: it has evolved from a voice assistant for asking questions aloud into an agentic system that lets you delegate tasks through speech. Google’s official blog revealed the data driving this shift: 63% of Gemini users talk to it directly. In the announcement, Neel Joshi, product director for Google Gemini Live, wrote, “Life moves fast, and speaking your prompt is often the fastest way to get help.” The core of this upgrade: Daily Brief, email triage, and Spark can all be handled using voice alone.

The core change is that Gemini Live now integrates with Google’s agentic task system, Spark. Users can set complex multi-step tasks using natural voice commands, and Spark will execute them across Google Docs, Sheets, Drive, and the web on its own—even handling scheduled jobs that run over days or weeks. Tasks keep running in the background even if you don’t have the Gemini app open. Google’s examples are very relatable: on your commute, you ramble off the scattered ideas in your head to Gemini, and Spark turns them into a structured outline in Docs by the time you sit down at your desk; or have it maintain a weekly family menu, plan high-protein vegetarian meals, and generate a shopping list based on recipes you’ve saved in Docs.
Daily Brief combines important information from Gmail and Calendar into a single spoken summary—just ask “What’s my daily brief?” in the morning to stay on top of what needs your attention that day, without having to dig through your inbox and calendar one by one. The hands-free inbox feature turns Gemini into a voice sorter for Gmail: ask “Are there any urgent emails from my child’s school today?” and it will search, summarize, star, archive, and delete—all without you ever touching the screen. Personal Intelligence adds memory: Gemini Live remembers what you’ve talked about in the past and connects data from Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube, so questions like “What was the name of that restaurant we went to when we visited New York last summer?” can be answered directly from your conversation history and app data.
Although the features are comprehensive, these services are not free. Spark requires a Google AI Pro subscription or higher, while Daily Brief requires Google AI Plus or above. Before using them, you must link the relevant apps in the Personal Intelligence settings in Gemini. Moreover, the feature won’t be available to everyone immediately; it will be gradually rolled out to eligible subscribers.
