ChatGPT’s scheduled tasks were previously only available to paid users, leaving free users without access. So if you wanted to regularly check something—like morning news on a specific topic, whether a flight price has dropped, or whether a website has been updated—you had to ask manually. Finally, recently, ChatGPT has officially rolled out scheduled tasks to free users. Although there are limits on usage and frequency, the free version now at least lets you experience the convenience of automation.
In addition, OpenAI also announced that ChatGPT Work can now handle websites that require login. When Work encounters a login page, it first hands control to you, letting you complete the account, password, or other verification yourself (currently this appears to work with password managers). Once you’re logged in, control is returned to Work to continue with the remaining tasks.

For readers who aren’t yet familiar with ChatGPT scheduled tasks, here’s a quick explanation.
Simply put, you give ChatGPT the instructions and the execution time in advance, and when the time comes, it runs on its own. After it’s done, it pushes the results to you. In between, you don’t need to open the app or ask about it yourself. You can set it up as a one-time task (“remind me to pay the bill next Wednesday”), a recurring one (“compile AI industry news at 7 a.m. every day”), or even a monitoring type: “Check for changes, notify me when there’s something to report, and if there isn’t, don’t.”
This time, ChatGPT is making the scheduled tasks feature available to free users, though there are some limitations. Free users can have up to 3 scheduled tasks active at the same time. Each task can be a one-time run or recurring, but the recurrence is limited to at most once a day. In other words, you can’t set up high-frequency monitoring that runs every hour.
While opening up to free users, the paid version also simultaneously launches the “event trigger” feature, meaning scheduling is no longer limited to time-based rules—it can now be tied to the moment something happens, such as receiving a new email in Gmail, someone posting in a specific Slack channel, or a pull request on GitHub. These can all serve as trigger conditions. For those already using these tools in their workflow scheduling, this is more practical than running at fixed times.
The Free and Go plans cannot create event-triggered (webhook) tasks; this is currently limited to Plus and Pro paid users only.

OpenAI earlier announced on its official X account that the website login feature for ChatGPT Work will begin rolling out today, available on both web and mobile. It is currently available to Plus, Pro, and Business users. In simple terms, ChatGPT Work can now log into websites using the computer environment and browser it uses to execute tasks, and during the login process, ChatGPT will not see your username or password.
Previously, when ChatGPT Work executed tasks through the cloud browser, if it encountered a page that required entering account credentials and logging in to continue, the task would stop there.
With this feature now available, when ChatGPT Work encounters a login page, it pauses and hands the login steps back to you. After you complete verification with your account and password, Work takes over the remaining operations. This way, tasks that require logging in to query data, fill out forms, make reservations, or manage account content can truly be completed from start to finish. Of course, OpenAI has also set up several lines of defense for this login mechanism: whenever it encounters an action that has real consequences, such as completing a reservation, placing an order, canceling an appointment, or other operations that could result in real-world impact.
