OpenAI delivers a big gift — ChatGPT Plus users get unlimited Sora access during the Christmas holidays.

OpenAI finally, before the end of this year, officially launched the long-awaited Sora text-to-video serviceAnd what’s more, it’s free for ChatGPT Plus members—no extra charge, which is pretty great. That said, even though it’s free, it runs on a Credits system, and every video you generate deducts a certain number of points, so they run out very easily—you might not even manage to generate a single video you’re happy with before they’re gone.

The good news is that OpenAI has just dropped a Christmas gift, announcing that all ChatGPT Plus users can use Sora unlimitedly during the Christmas holiday. That means you can generate as many videos as you want, so be sure to make the most of this rare opportunity.

ChatGPT Plus users can use Sora without limits during the Christmas holidays.

Recently, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced on X.com the big Day 13 gift: the “Sora Reward.”

Sam Altman mentioned that as everyone was off for the holidays at the end of December, their GPU usage decreased slightly, so during the holiday period, all Plus users get unlimited access to Sora, through the relaxed queue, of course.

our GPUs get a little less busy during late december as people take a break from work, so we are giving all plus users unlimited sora access via the relaxed queue over the holidays!

However, neither Sam Altman nor OpenAI’s official channels have specifically stated how long this free access to Sora during the holiday will last. As far as the US is concerned, the only federal holiday is December 25th itself, but most companies’ Christmas holidays typically run from the afternoon of December 24th through December 26th.

Then there’s the New Year’s holiday after January 1st. Sam Altman only said “holidays,” so it’s unclear until when. From my testing, it’s already unlimited usage right now.

Another thing to note is that even though it’s unlimited, if your account still has Credits, generating AI videos will still deduct Credits until it reaches 0.

But here’s the strange part: after my credits dropped to 0, I generated a few videos and suddenly my Credits went back to 30. I have no idea why.

And after Creadits are used up, you can still continue generating videos, but it will be a relaxed queue, not a fast one. I tested that the generation speed is still very fast, and you don’t have to wait too long. This is a huge difference from Pika 2.0:

Pika also launched a few days ago Pika 2.0 free usage eventIt takes me several hours to test and generate a video.

ChatGPT Plus users receive 1,000 Credits per month, which allows them to generate 50 videos at 480P resolution for free. If they choose the higher 720P resolution, it will cost more Credits, allowing only 16 videos to be generated.

ChatGPT Pro users get 10x usage, receiving 10,000 Credits per month, can generate 500 priority videos, with up to 1080p resolution, 20-second video length, and support for generating 5 videos simultaneously. More importantly, downloaded videos have no watermark, and you can generate unlimited non-priority videos.
