It allows users to use the Mac device as the starting point and use the mouse, trackpad and keyboard of different devices to control the common control functions of other Macs and even iPad devices nearby. It can be said to be one of the most eye-catching new features when macOS Monterey 12 was launched. It’s just that Apple not only delayed the launch of this feature, but also postponed it from the expected launch time last fall to March this year. The key point is that it is still in beta.
Although, according to the author’s daily trial, the smoothness and connection response of the universal control basically have no delay or functional problems, and it is quite close to the official version. However, it is clear that Apple officials still feel that some functions require users to help test them, which is why today the official version of macOS still has a test version label in the general control options.
However, this situation is said to have changed in macOS Monterey 12.4, which should be released soon.
In the latest macOS Monterey 12.4 Release Candidate test version, someone discovered that the BETA wording of universal controls has been removed from this version. The public beta version of iPadOS 15.5 has also been launched recently. It is generally believed that Apple should have really completed various tests of this feature before the latest macOS 13 version, and is ready to officially share such a convenient feature with all (at least iPad and Mac) users of the Apple ecosystem.
