Someone discovered that Android “Nearby Sharing” finally supports more seamless quick sharing of own devices!
It seems that Google’s experience with Nearby Share is basically quite… close to Apple’s direction in creating AirDrop (well, is that what I mean). In short, regarding the experience of having to obtain the consent of the transfer destination device – although this is not a very troublesome thing to say, if it is determined to be a transfer between “own devices”, it seems that it is not possible to omit some steps for convenience?
Recently, some people have discovered that there are some changes in the proximity sharing function used by their Android / Chrome OS. The newly added “Your devices” permission will allow you to display devices logged in with the same Google account in the list of visible devices in this category in addition to the “Contacts” and “Everyone” options, and choose to send them via proximity sharing.
It is said that this self-share mode will support the “one-click” proximity sharing process. That is, the consent step of the transmission destination device is omitted. This is a similar experience with Apple’s AirDrop feature. Interestingly, from the screenshot shared by Esper’s Mishaal Rahman on Twitter, Android seems to be limited to device sharing settings, where you can only choose between everyone/contacts/your device’s “visibility”?
Nearby Share’s “self-share” mode will let you quickly share files to other devices signed into the same Google account without needing to approve the share.

Google has actually adjusted the options for open sharing objects for Android proximity sharing several times before. For example, the “Everyone” option can appear more comprehensively on other non-contact phones. Although it will inevitably make people worry about whether they will encounter harassment, it can omit the troublesome experience of adding contacts, and it is still a pretty good permission option – it is better than nothing, but remember to turn it off to be safer.
This update is for your own device, because it seems that it is not a comprehensive push function yet. Some media speculate that there may be a series of related updates until the Google I/O conference. I wonder what kind of more seamless experience everyone expects this function to introduce? Looking at the experience of Apple’s devices, maybe it would be a good idea to share the screen directly between devices?
