Toyota’s Future Creation Center has been developing the AI basketball robot CUE since 2017. Starting with the first-generation CUE unveiled in 2018, Toyota has continued working on better AI basketball robots, and now the Toyota AI basketball robot has been developed to the sixth generation, CUE6. Through continuous improvements, Toyota recently announced that CUE6 achieved the Guinness World Record for the longest basketball shot by an AI basketball robot.
TOYOTA AI Basketball Robot CUE6 Breaks Record for Longest Robot Basketball Shot
TOYOTA’s Future Creation Center announced in 2017 that it was developing its own AI humanoid basketball robot, CUE, which made its first appearance in March 2018 at ALVARK Tokyo, a Japanese professional basketball team sponsored by Toyota Motor. After years of research and development, TOYOTA has now unveiled the sixth-generation AI basketball robot, CUE6, which is currently a player on ALVARK Tokyo’s roster.
On September 26 this year, TOYOTA’s CUE6 successfully completed a 24.55-meter long-distance basketball shot at the Toyota Central R&D Labs in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, achieving the Guinness World Record for the “Farthest basketball shot by a humanoid robot.”

Actually, besides this year’s Guinness World Record for the longest basketball shot by a humanoid robot, the TOYOTA CUE series robots had already achieved the Guinness World Record for “most consecutive basketball free throws by a humanoid robot” back in 2019.
Afterwards, TOYOTA’s CUE6 AI basketball robot is scheduled to perform at B.LEAGUE 2024-25 season ALVARK Tokyo home games. It’s likely that TOYOTA will continue its research on the CUE series AI basketball robots. Currently, the challenges for the CUE series robots are still limited to stationary shooting, and hopefully we’ll get to see the CUE series robots actually running around on the basketball court in the future.
