Android 13 can also support the tablet app drawer interface of Android 12L. Will there be an “L” version in the future?
Last week, we just started from The Android Show that Google has prepared for many users.explainedWhy is Android 12L launched for “L-sized” large-screen devices? (See more:Google saw tablets resurrected after Play was shelved, and is ready to kick it in with “tablet-first apps”) However, now that the Android 13 developer test version has been updated again, some people have discovered that some features designed for Android 12L have also appeared on this Google smartphone system that should theoretically be officially launched at the end of the year.
Foreign media found that once you switch the phone to a tablet-like DPI display specification on a device with the Android 13 Developer Preview 2 test version system installed. Previously, the system would automatically switch to an interface that supports launchers of different layouts – the most obvious difference is that the quick launch application will go to the bottom and swap with the search bar. When the system test version came to DP2, it was discovered that even the App Drawer application drawer had changed.
When entering the app, the App Drawer app drawer button will be added to the last item in the Dock task bar at the bottom of the active bottom. It’s a bit similar to the Dock currently provided by iPadOS. You can directly click on the ICON to find the app you want to launch; then the button will disappear when on the desktop.
This feature corresponds to Android 13 DP2’s support for multi-tasking functions – you can grab apps directly from notifications and use them in the left and right split screens of the folding screen or tablet interface. It feels like it is in line with folding phones or Google’s announcement that it will create more optimizations for tablets.
However, the more problem is that since Android 13 can also support most of the features of Android 12L. What are the different tasks of these two systems? Will there be an L version of the system next, or will it eventually return to the same system (after all, it is obvious that the interface will be switched when the screen DPI is detected)? Obviously, it will be clearer until the system is officially released, or we have to wait until the legendary Pixel Fold, or even the new-generation Pixel tablet that may also appear (this is a wild guess by the editor).
