Intel Core i9-12900KS benchmark scores exposed, crushing R9 5950X is no problem

The performance of Intel Alder Lake, or Intel’s 12th generation Core processors, is quite impressive, and it basically wins by comparison with its competitors, the AMD Ryzen 5000 series. Many people are also optimistic about Intel’s flagship processor Core i9 12900KS, which will be launched next month. But the strength of the 12900KS is unknown until the running scores are actually bought. Fortunately, some of these players who were lucky enough to buy it in advance used it to run the Cinebench R23 test, and the results showed that the 12900KS did indeed perform well, even AMD’s 16-core flagship processor R9 5950X was defeated miserably.

Core i9-12900KS is a processor with quite powerful specifications, with 8 performance cores (P-Core) and 8 efficiency cores (E-Core), for a total of 16 cores and 24 threads. The single core (P Core) can reach up to 5.5GHz after overclocking, the full core is 5.2GHz, and the E-Core part can reach 4GHz. Equipped with 30MB of L3 high-speed cache, base power consumption is 150W.

This information may not be news to hardware gamers, but for a small gamer who hopes that one day he can build an unlimited budget computer, this specification is the most powerful Intel processor at this stage, and may even be the most powerful gaming processor in the future.

Reddit user Seby9123 was one of the early people to get this processor. He did one more thing than others, which was to get the processing climate score first. The results of the running scores were quickly visible to players all over the world through the Internet. Judging from the scores, Intel has indeed tried its best to squeeze out all the performance it can from this processor, whether it is ultra-high clock speed or higher power consumption, all in order to achieve the best results so that players who spend a lot of money to buy them will be satisfied. By the way, it also eliminates the stigma of being ridiculed as a toothpaste factory.

The part about processor box design has been looked at before, now we are concerned with scores. I believe players are still very concerned about how much the Intel Alder Lake Core i9 12900KS weighs. It is understood that Seby9123 uses the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 APEX motherboard and two 16GB DDR5-6200 (CL36) memory modules. As for whether its platform uses air cooling, water cooling or liquid nitrogen, Seby9123 did not elaborate on this. The test results are divided into preset clock and overclocked results.

In the test at the default clock, 2 P-Cores ran at 5.5 GHz and the remaining P-Cores ran at 5.2 GHz. As for E-Core, it operates at 4.0GHz. Under such clock conditions, Cinebench R23 measured a single-core score of 2162 points and a multi-core score of 29164 points.

However, after all, the Core i9-12900KS is not as overclockable as the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, so in the next test, Seby9123 pulled all P-Cores to 5.4 GHz and all E-Cores to 4.2 GHz. The maximum value of the CPU V-Core voltage is 1.418V. Under this setting, the power consumption is also very “considerable”. The temperature is as high as 100 degrees, and the power consumption is as high as 319W. But thanks to such crazy overclocking, the score has been raised to more than 30,000 points in one go.

In addition to such overclocking, Seby9123 also tried turning on P-Core only, pushing it to 5.3GHz and a voltage of 1.341 V. The CPU scored 20510 points in the multi-core test and the maximum power consumption was 187W. Compared with the score of AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, although it lags behind significantly, considering that 5900X is a processor with 12 physical cores and 24 threads, the 12900KS with only P-Core enabled has only 8 physical cores and 16 threads. The characteristics and performance of the two parties’ architectures can be judged.

In conclusion, Core i9-12900KS is powerful enough without overclocking. Even a couple of E-Cores can beat the R9 5900X. Of course, the cost is also obvious. Higher selling price and higher power consumption require players to pay attention to maintenance. Presumably only players who are constantly pursuing the theoretical performance limits of computers would be willing to pursue such a processor. The biggest significance is that Intel shows that its own technology has not been eliminated by the times, and will not always lag behind its rival AMD.
