Taiwan has national health insurance, which makes it easier for people to see a doctor. But it’s different abroad. Since there’s no national health insurance overseas, seeing any kind of doctor is very expensive, so some people may choose to look online for answers to their questions. For example, a woman in the US used ChatGPT as her dermatologist, having ChatGPT create a personalized skincare plan for her. She probably asked just to try it out, but unexpectedly, after following ChatGPT’s advice, her skin actually improved, which led her to happily share her experience on Reddit.

Seeing a doctor abroad is too expensive! An American woman used ChatGPT instead of a dermatologist, and the results were surprisingly effective.
Netizen General-Implement83 In a Reddit 30 plus skin care forum post, a 37-year-old Caucasian woman shared that she discovered the small bumps on her face are called closed comedones, and chose to use ChatGPT as her dermatologist. She set up a professional dermatologist role for ChatGPT and asked it to help create a skincare regimen that would help her get rid of closed comedones, acne, minimize pores, tighten skin, and reduce fine lines.

To avoid wasting extra money, General-Implement83 photographed all the products she already uses and asked ChatGPT to create a skincare routine using the products she already has, with the condition that the routine must not include any products that would clog her pores.

Finally, at General-Implement83’s request, ChatGPT recommended new cosmetics in addition to the products she was already using. General-Implement83 believed that the ingredients with the greatest impact were vitamin C, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and retinoic acid. After following ChatGPT’s skincare routine for two months, her skin transformed from the state on the left to the state on the right.

General-Implement83 says she is quite satisfied with the results, although she spent about 300 to 400 USD (approximately 9734 to 12979 TWD) in total on new skincare products and cosmetics, it was still a pretty good deal compared to the cost of a dermatologist consultation.
General-Implement83 chose to use ChatGPT to help plan a skincare routine because seeing a dermatologist in the US is too expensive, hoping it might improve their skin. However, it’s still worth reminding that for any real issues or conditions, you should see a doctor. AI models like ChatGPT and Gemini can still experience hallucinations or produce nonsensical responses, so don’t blindly trust what AI says.
