Netflix finally adds HD and HDR support to 2021 Pixel
For friends who like to watch streaming videos, high-end and even more affordable mid-range smartphones are quickly adopting various trends of advanced display specifications on computer TVs, which is definitely a very gratifying development. However, in addition to hardware specification support, many people also find that getting all their favorite audio and video services to “light up” and activate the best visual experience often requires some tricks or a long wait.
Although this is really a bit disappointing for people who just bought a new phone. Fortunately, with the current popular subscription system, it is usually not a big problem to revisit and experience a new visual experience after adding new support (after all, you are full after seeing it).
For users of 2021 Pixel phones that support up to QHD+ and support HDR display, including users of Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, and Pixel 6 Pro, the previous issue of Netflix not being able to support advanced display features has finally been confirmed to be resolved.
Netflix has updated its official support page, confirming that the new generation of Google Pixel phones will be included in the support range for HD and HDR10 video playback on Android devices – the latter requires at least Google Pixel 3 and 3 XL; the A series can be lit up at least on Google Pixel 4a and Pixel 4a 5G screens.
As Google’s new generation Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro flagships equipped with Tensor SoC, both are equipped with high refresh rate (90Hz and 120Hz – the Pro version also supports LTPO) OLED screens with a contrast ratio of up to 1,000,000:1, directly supporting HDR display specifications. Although it should be acceptable that HDR10 support is relatively slow, I didn’t expect Netflix to provide HD high-definition support to this series of mobile phones so late. As for HD support, according to the support page on Netflix’s official website, it can be provided starting from Nexus 6 and Nexus 5X.
