In addition to AI robots, AI-equipped smart glasses are now also a focus of development for various tech companies. The previously introduced Solos AIRGO™ 3、Frame and Meta Ray-Ban Smart GlassesAlthough all three models are equipped with AI, since they are from foreign companies, they all have difficulty understanding Chinese commands, and users need to use English commands to control the smart glasses. However, Baidu recently launched the Xiaodu AI Glasses in China, which can solve the problem of smart glasses currently on the market being unable to use Chinese commands. The Xiaodu AI Glasses are the world’s first native AI glasses equipped with a Chinese large language model, and can better serve Chinese-speaking users. But aside from using a Chinese large language model, the features of the Xiaodu AI Glasses seem to be the same as the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, with no major innovations.

Baidu Launches Xiaodu AI Glasses: The World’s First Smart Glasses Featuring a Chinese Large Language Model

At today’s 2024 Baidu World Conference, Baidu officially unveiled its own “Xiaodu AI Glasses,” emphasizing that they are the world’s first native AI glasses powered by a Chinese large model. The Xiaodu AI Glasses weigh only 45 grams and feature a 16-megapixel camera with an AI anti-shake algorithm. Standby battery life reaches up to 56 hours, and a 30-minute full charge provides five hours of continuous use. Baidu stated that the Xiaodu AI Glasses will not, like other brands’ glasses, be smart glasses in the morning and turn into ordinary glasses in the afternoon. It seems Baidu is very confident in the battery life of the Xiaodu AI Glasses.

The Xiaodu AI Glasses let you capture photos and videos from a first-person perspective, identify buildings in front of you, ask questions on the go, translate what you see and hear, play ambient playlists, and even serve as your smart memo.

After everyone finishes watching the feature introduction of the Xiaodu AI glasses, will they feel that… Meta Ray-Ban glassesThere’s not much of a difference—it feels like current AI glasses all have pretty similar features. Object recognition, video recording, translation, and so on are available on almost every smart glasses brand. What stands out about the Xiaodu AI glasses is that they’re the first glasses on the market to come equipped with a Chinese large model. According to online rumors, the suggested retail price for the Xiaodu AI glasses is expected to be around US$299 (approximately NT$9,711), while the Ray-Ban Meta Wayfarer is priced at US$329 (approximately NT$10,686).

It’s not yet certain whether the AI features of the Xiaodu AI glasses will still work after leaving China. If they don’t, then in Taiwan the Xiaodu AI glasses would be just like the current Meta Ray-Ban glasses, with only photo and video capabilities left. If the features are the same, which would you choose: Meta Ray-Ban glasses or Xiaodu AI glasses?
