When shopping for clothes online, if you see something you like, you’ll definitely want to try it on to see how it looks and whether it suits you. Kolors Virtual Try-On in the Wild is a free online tool hosted on Hugging Face, and is also available on GitHub Open source, if you want to set it up locally, you can take a look here.
Usage is simple: upload your photo, then upload a clothing photo, and press Run to start the clothing swap. There are also some sample images provided for you to use if you don’t want to upload your own, though the portrait images look AI-generated.
After clicking the link above to enter Kolors Virtual Try-On in the Wild, Step 1 on the far left is for uploading your image, and Step 2 in the middle is for the clothing image. You can directly click the example images below to try it.
I tested Ada’s profile picture, then used the sample clothing image. Pressing Run will start the computation, and it will basically finish after waiting a few dozen seconds. However, if too many people are using it at the moment, it will be a bit slower:
Like this, we successfully put the clothing image on Ada. I have to say, aside from the neck color being a bit odd, everything else looks pretty good, and it even made Ada’s arm muscles bigger:
Next, I tried the clothing images I scraped from the Uniqlo website, also women’s clothing:
Although the outfit change effect is also natural, there’s something wrong. It should be sleeveless, but after the change it has sleeves, and the overall cut looks like men’s clothing instead of the original women’s clothing, a bit like a polo shirt:
I tested another women’s outfit too, and the sleeves suddenly popped out, but the changing effect is still quite good, and the cut has become a men’s version. Normally, Ada definitely wouldn’t be able to fit into this outfit:
But it works normally when switched to the female portrait in the example. This shows that the tool likely determines whether the person is male or female, then infers and generates appropriate clothing.
So, while Kolors Virtual Try-On in the Wild can produce pretty impressive AI clothing swap results, it’s still only for reference. There’s a high chance it will beautify the final image, so you might think the clothes look great on you, but when you actually buy them and put them on, it won’t look like the picture.
However, with AI advancing so quickly, it shouldn’t be long before more realistic AI clothes-changing tools appear.

Also, one more thing to note when using it: the person should ideally be larger, at least over 50% of the entire image, for the clothing change effect to work well. If the person is too small, it might turn out strange.
