The more convenient and powerful technology becomes, the greater the fear of abuse becomes. Although AirTag’s concept of using various devices of users to provide “everyone for one, one for everyone” search services is not the first. However, it is obvious that its practicality and popularity have made many people suddenly worried about the risk of being tracked. For this situation, the official has actually provided many solutions and functional adjustments in the future. This time, in the latest system test version, someone discovered a more advanced and “more proactive” countermeasure. iOS 15.2 beta begins to provide more proactive countermeasures against “unknown” AirTag tracking

People are afraid of the unknown, and it is not difficult to imagine that they will have the same level of fear when being tracked by unknown devices such as AirTags. Although Apple has provided products that support the Works with Apple Find My function,Measures to better prevent malicious tracking, and even prepare to take the Android system into consideration at the same time. But relatively speaking, those are still passive notification functions. In the recent iOS 15.2 Beta 2, Apple quietly began to provide a new feature in the Find My search application that actively intercepts possible malicious tracking.

After updating to the beta version of iOS 15.2, you will be able to find a new “Track My Items” description under the “Items” field in the Find App. Here, you will be able to directly search for any “unknown items” around you (which should generally refer to devices that support Works with Apple Find My). According to foreign media, if a suspicious tracking tag is found but cannot be found on the body. You can follow the steps given by the system to further close the communication between the device on your hand and its object-finding network.

In short, as long as the device following you is not close to other Find My-enabled devices, basically the tracking device will no longer be able to return location information – this is my understanding. After all, logically speaking, strangers should not be able to turn off the AirTag in your hand (otherwise it will be troublesome if you encounter a thief with an iPhone). At most, it is just that it does not provide the assisted finding function of this item.

Because of this, the main purpose of this function is basically to use the app to actively scan for suspicious unknown items within the range of the Bluetooth connection if you suspect or are worried that there may be malicious tracking devices from the Apple ecosystem on or around you. If we want to completely cut off the possibility of being tracked, it is still necessary to find this missing object tag and deal with it accordingly.

It has to be said that it is indeed the right thing to do more and more to counter malicious tracking. But on the other hand, for people who are willing to steal things, it seems that it has become a function to avoid being caught (scan and find it if you find it)? Perhaps a device like AirTag is most helpful in situations where you really accidentally lose it. If you really want to prevent theft, you may not be able to rely on this type of product.
