So far, we have actually tested many thoughtful new features through the iOS 15 public beta version. However, someone recently discovered that there is a small easter egg function 5G priority Wi-Fi mode that has been previewed on the official page of iOS 15 / iPadOS 15. Now it seems that it is ready to be opened for developers to use. I feel that it should also start testing to public beta users in the near future? Judging from the current official description, this feature is limited to 5G models. Not to mention the new generation iPhone (iPhone 13?), the current models that support this new generation of mobile networks include iPhone 12 / iPhone 12 mini / iPhone 12 Pro / iPhone 12 Pro Max. Although Apple has not clearly stated whether the 4G version can receive similar functions, it currently seems to be based on 5G high-speed mobile networks whose speeds are “theoretically” comparable to ordinary Wi-Fi.

According to a report by foreign media Apple Insider, Apple has currently opened the 5G Priority Wi-Fi (Preferred Over Wi-Fi) description file for developers to download and test. Different from the automatic mode of iOS 14 that switches to 5G on demand, this function is just like its name. It is a function that will actively help you switch from Wi-Fi to 5G signal to use the Internet when the system detects that the Wi-Fi speed is slow or is judged to be unsafe.

In addition to ensuring a better connection experience, this feature may also be more of a consideration for security issues. In addition to the previous ad tracking permissions, the current iOS 15/iPadOS 15 also provides thoughtful functions for hiding email accounts for iCloud+ users when making online service subscriptions or account applications; it also provides advanced services for hiding IP addresses for Safari. This shows that Apple is very particular about information security.

Although we are not sure at present what benchmark Apple will use to judge the status of the Wi-Fi connection to switch (will it compare the speed of the two?), but I believe that for the security part, it should be quite decisive in quickly switching on the device with this option enabled, right?
