This year, Microsoft has been steadily enhancing Paint’s features, and now many basic image editing tasks can be done in Paint, such as background removal. In addition, Paint has also introduced the Cocreator feature, which uses AI for image generation, though it hasn’t rolled out globally yet. The good news is that getting early access isn’t difficult — you just need to change one setting. Here’s how to do it.

Before starting the tutorial, a quick reminder: I’m not sure if there’s any difference depending on the Windows 11 version. You can try it first. If it doesn’t show up, it might be that your Windows 11 version is too old. Please update it and try again.
The Cocreator feature should appear in this block at the top right. If it doesn’t, that means the feature hasn’t been rolled out in your current region yet, such as Taiwan:
First, open Windows 11 Settings, go to the “Time & Language” option, and in the menu on the right, select “Language & Region”:
Next, modify the “Country/Region” field, changing Taiwan (or other countries) to “United States”:
As shown in the figure below, after the change, no restart is needed, and it will take effect directly.
Now when you open Paint again, you’ll see the Cocreator feature appear in the top right corner! Please click on it:
The Cocreator feature appears in the right sidebar. Although it says “Join waiting list” and seems unusable, after you actually click “Join waiting list,” you can start using it. My guess is that no one is on the waiting list right now, so it’s directly available:
Then a trial of Cocreator will pop up, and you can click Next for a brief tutorial. If you’re not signed in to your Microsoft account, it will prompt you to sign in:
The usage is also very simple. The prompt description can be entered in Traditional Chinese, just like when you use AI image generation tools online. Type the image description you want to generate in the box on the right. Also, note that there’s a limit of 50 uses.
Like this, I enter “A cute cat lying lazily on the street,” and then click Create below. The style options include charcoal gray, sketch drawing, watercolor, oil painting, digital art, photorealistic, animation, and pixel art—eight choices in total. If you need these styles, you can configure them.
It generates three results at a time, and 50 uses only counts as 1 deduction, which is pretty nice:
After clicking the image, it will be imported into the Paint canvas:
If you just want to simply save the generated image without importing it into the Paint canvas, you can right-click on the image to open the context menu, where you’ll find the “Save image” option:

And the generation engine that Cocreator uses is, of course, DALL-E 3, so the output quality goes without saying. I just entered a simple sentence above, and it produced a realistic, adorable cat image with no flaws.
