The reason why this app claims to be able to detect one of the indicators of waterproof mobile phones is “air tightness”. This is because it can read the value of the air pressure gauge on the mobile phone and confirm whether the air tightness is sufficient by monitoring changes in the air pressure value. The interface of Water Resistance Tester is very simple – I didn’t even find the button to re-measure, so I just closed the app and reopened it to measure again. As soon as you open the app, you will be prompted to keep your phone still to measure the average value of standard air pressure. After measuring the value, two icons that look like fingerprints will appear on the screen. I hope you press hard on the screen with two fingers. At this time, the Water Resistance Tester will determine whether the air tightness of the mobile phone meets the standard through changes in air pressure values.
The editor used Pixel 3 XL for testing, and the value obtained was almost unchanged, which means that it is no longer waterproof-it has been like this several times, and I am heartbroken. Because I was a little dubious, I tried to use Sony’s waterproof mobile phone for cross-testing – because it is a new mobile phone, there should be no air tightness problem (right). It turns out that when the air pressure value is pressed with your finger, you will see that the hPa value jumps by a few digits! The interface also indicates that it is a waterproof phone and there is no problem. The most interesting thing is that when I withdraw the SIM card slot slightly, it will detect that the air pressure value does not change much, and it will prompt that it is not waterproof.
After all, the system will also prompt you to try pressing harder to determine whether there is a problem with the air tightness. In addition, we can only test a small amount. So I still hope you can use it as a reference. But I have to say that this measurement method is really smart – I checked it later and found that someone had actually done a similar application before. However, Water Resistance Tester is free and seems to have good support for current mobile phones. But we have to emphasize again, if you really want to confirm the reliability before launching into the water, it is better to go through testing and evaluation by a professional unit.。
