AMD is expected to release the Zen 4 architecture in 2022. At this stage, I believe many players are very concerned about how powerful this architecture is. Although the physical product has not yet come out, rumors are already flying everywhere. One of the most interesting news recently pointed out that the future server processor EYPC using Zen 4 architecture will have 128 cores. Friends who are unfamiliar with server processors may have no idea about this number. But if we look at AMD’s previous generation EPYC 7003 series, its core count has doubled. It can be seen from this that Zen 4 will be an architecture that can greatly expand the number of cores, but whether consumer products will also have such amazing specifications remains to be seen:

Rumors about Zen 4 also became lively when AMD announced that it would launch a processor using this architecture in 2022. Various leakers have tried their best to express or imply how powerful the next-generation processor will be and how amazing the specifications will be. Although the specification of 128 cores sounds too sci-fi. But considering that there have been rumors in the past that Zen 4 will launch with 64 cores, doubling the number may not be too much. What’s more, the 128-core processor does not refer to the Ryzen series of consumer products that most people are familiar with, but the EPYC series used in servers. In this way, we have a bottom. Even if consumer products have to draw a clear line from servers and define high-, mid-, and low-end products, I believe that the new processors will definitely not disappoint everyone in terms of the number of cores.
Take the Rocket Lake architecture recently announced by rival Intel, which adds the AVX-512 instruction set to achieve amazing performance on workloads. The Zen 4 architecture will reportedly follow suit. In addition to the AVX-512 instruction set, it is also thought that there will be at least 64 cores. Judging from the performance of the 8-core Rocket Lake-S processor that beats the 64-core Zen 2 EPYC processor in tests that support 3D Particle Movement AVX, if Zen 4 further expands the core and follows up on instruction sets such as AVX-512, the two may be able to compete equally:

The new Zen 4 architecture and the new Genoa processor are not ready to be released at this stage. You’ll have to wait until at least next year for a chance. It is currently known that the Zen 4 version of the EYPC processor will be used in the upcoming El Capitan supercomputer, which will have a computing power of 2 ExaFlops per second and is expected to be released in 2023. It will be used for nuclear research in the United States and other purposes.
