The editor gave the title of the most powerful gaming processor to the 10th generation Intel® Core™ i9-10900K a year ago, but after a year of thinking, can the brand new 11th generation Intel® Core™ i9-11900K continue this title? The first thing that makes people think is that under the same processor capacity, the space of i9-10900K 8C/16T is compared to that of i9-11900K. 10C/20T will be much more comfortable, so when the 10C/20T of i9-10900K came out, the temperature at full load was too high, the temperature could not be controlled without water cooling, etc. Therefore, in order to solve the temperature problem caused by overcrowding, of course, we can only free up space to allow the temperature to disperse, so this is understandable.

But what is incomprehensible is that when the i9-10900K created a new chapter of 10 cores and 20 threads for home processors, it was dropped back to an 8-core 16-thread configuration in the new generation of i9-11900K. While the overall core number is declining, it can be expected that the full-core computing capability will definitely decline. Suppose we take the i9-10900K The computing power of each thread is set to 1, so if the i9-11900K wants to achieve the same computing power, at least one thread must be able to reach 125% of the original strength to be able to equal the i9-10900K. The motherboard used for this test is the ROG MAXIMUS XIII HERO motherboard. It is worth mentioning about the motherboard that both Z490 and Z590 support the 10th and 11th generation Intel processors. The main difference lies in the support of PCIe 4.0. 11thGeneration Intel® Core™ i9-11900K Performance measurement

Since the i9-11900K will be most compared with its own i9-10900K this time, the editor deliberately used the same test benchmark as last year with the same configuration. The only difference is the replacement of the motherboard and the upgrade of the processor (!?). Therefore, with the same configuration of memory, SSD, and water cooling, you can clearly see the core difference between the two. Then we conducted a running test through CPU-Z. We can see that the single-core running score is 692.1. Compared with the previous generation running score of 591.4, the improvement is about 17%. Compared with the target value of 25%, there is still one A short distance, so in the full-core running score, the score fell to 6471.4. Compared with the 10C/20T i9-10900K running score of 7379.3, it reduced the overall performance by about 12-13%.

Then the performance test was conducted through CineBench R15. In the single-core part, the score was 253. Compared with the previous generation’s score of 207, it improved performance by about 22%. The full-core benchmark score was 2264, which was a 10-11% performance reduction compared to the previous generation’s 2537.

We are also conducting another performance test through CineBench R20. The single-core running score is 627, which is about 25% higher than the previous generation’s 502. On the contrary, it has a value close to the expected value in CineBench R20. The full-core partial running score is 5328, which is a 13% reduction in performance compared to the previous generation’s 6129.

Through the above three actual measurement comparisons based solely on core computing power, it is not difficult to find that in the single-core part, the i9-11900K has improved performance by about 20% compared to the i9-10900K. However, due to the reduction in the number of cores, the i9-11900K lags behind the previous generation i9-10900K. 10~15% of the full-core computing power. Based on these running scores alone, can we define who is the strongest game processor? In fact, there is no answer to this question. Simply put, regarding the hardware resource allocation of games, one game has a corresponding allocation, and a thousand games have a thousand allocations. Therefore, if game A mainly calls single-core computing, then of course it can be said that the new i9-1190 is used in game A. 0K wins, but if there is another B game that will use all cores to perform calculations at the same time, then the previous generation i9-10900K is the best choice. Therefore, there is no standard answer to this question. It depends on personal needs.

Then we used x264 FHD Benchmark for testing. The main purpose was to see whether it was necessary for image creators to replace the processor. Therefore, we can find that the i9-11900K ran at 60.7 fps. Compared with the previous generation’s 64.8 fps, the i9-11900K was still relatively weak in the full-core computing part of the conversion test.

Similarly, in the x265 FHD Benchmark conversion test, the i9-11900K’s throw score was 41.8 fps. Compared with the previous generation’s 50.3 fps, it is indeed using all cores. The reduction in the number of cores of the i9-11900K has a great impact on the conversion performance.

Then let’s take a look at the performance of another i5-11600K! Similarly, first see the relevant information of i5-11600K through CPU-Z.

In terms of performance, we first tested it through CPU-Z. The single-core running score of the i5-11600K was 635.1, which is about 20% higher than the 529.4 of the previous generation i5-10600K. The all-core running score was 4640.7, which was about 16% better than the previous generation’s 4013.5.

Then in the CineBench R15 performance test, the single-core score of the i5-11600K was 228, which was about a 20% performance improvement compared to the previous generation’s 189. The full-core score was 1635, which was about a 19% performance improvement compared to the previous generation’s 1373.

Finally, there is the CineBench R20 performance test. The i5-11600K’s single-core running score is 579, which is about 23% higher than the previous generation’s 469. The all-core running score is 4010, which is also about 19% better than the previous generation’s 3360.

As for the performance of the i5-11600K, since it does not have the problem of reducing the number of cores like its big brother i9, compared with the previous generation i5-10600K, the single-core part has about a 20% performance improvement in various tests, while the full-core part has a performance improvement of about 19%. Therefore, there is no such troublesome problem with the i5-11600K, so you can upgrade with peace of mind!

In the conversion part, x264 FHD Benchmark was also used for testing. The i5-11600K ran at 52 fps, which is an improvement of about 13% compared to the previous generation’s 45.9 fps.

We also used the x265 FHD Benchmark to conduct another conversion test. The i5-11600K ran at 33.5 fps, which was an improvement of about 10% compared to the previous generation’s 30.4 fps.

Summarize

Based on the above actual performance tests, in terms of i9, there is still room for whether the i9-11900K can be called the most powerful game processor of the new generation. After all, in addition to the core calling part of the game itself, there are also communication issues with the GPU. Even on the 11th generation motherboard, there is a higher-speed PCIe 4.0 channel to communicate with the GPU, but whether it can make up for the reduction in processor cores is different for each game. Therefore, it depends on the player’s own needs to decide whether to use the previous generation i9-10900K, which has better all-core computing power, or to choose the new generation i9-11900K, which has faster single-core computing power. There is no good or bad, it is only the player’s own choice.

As for the i5-11600K, there is no suspense. You can just choose the new i5-11600K without considering the previous generation. To be honest, in terms of the performance of the i5-11600K, it is actually just for most non-super heavy gamers. The i5-11600 K’s computing power paired with a graphics card that performs well can actually handle 95% of the games on the market.
