Foreign hardware players modify their own RTX™️ 3070 graphics card
Russian hardware player VIK-on recently shared a video on his YouTube channel of upgrading his RTX 3070 8GB to 16GB. He started by removing the back panel, which only required a screwdriver:

The principle of modification is very simple, that is, to replace the original 1GB DDR6 of GTX 3070 with 2GB GDDR6, and the following 8 memory modules are what he plans to replace on the motherboard:
To remove the memory from the motherboard, he used a heat gun to blow through each module:

Everything went very smoothly, and 16GB GDDR6 was indeed captured after booting. This also means that the GA104 core of GTX 3070 supports 16GB configuration:
However, it still encounters driver limitations and is unstable in 3D graphics applications. The 3DMARK Time Spy score is lower than the original RTX 3070 8GB, only 8356. Finally, he solved the problem by using EVGA’s Precision X software to limit the graphics card to run at the normal clock speed.

Although the modification process does not seem too difficult, it is still not recommended for players to modify it on their own. After all, this will not only damage the warranty, but may also fail. More importantly, the RTX 3070 is super difficult to buy now. If it is modified, you may not be able to buy it again. It is more practical to wait for the RTX 3070 Ti.
