Global gaming and high-performance computing brand MSI announces it has officially become one of the first EPEAT 2.0 Launch Partners globally. Its flagship business laptop, Prestige 13 AI+ Evo A2VMG, underwent evaluation against over 80 new standard criteria and received EPEAT 2.0 Silver certification on June 20, 2026, marking a significant milestone in MSI’s product sustainability journey.

MSI Business Management Center Vice General Manager Tsai Wei-hsin stated: “As the industry transitions from the computational arms race to a critical juncture of full Agentic AI implementation, the value of technology is no longer just about pursuing performance, but about how to coexist with the environment. MSI becoming one of the first global launch partners for EPEAT 2.0 represents our breakthrough in green R&D for endpoint devices, and underscores our long-term commitment to the global value chain.”

What is EPEAT 2.0? GEC’s new-generation eco-label launched at the end of last year

EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool), promoted by the Global Electronics Council (GEC), is one of the world’s most credible environmental impact assessment tools for technology products. In December 2025, GEC officially released EPEAT 2.0, expanding from a product-centric assessment framework to a new architecture encompassing corporate commitments and value chain due diligence.

GEC CEO Bob Mitchell stated at the release: “EPEAT 2.0 represents the next evolutionary stage of responsible technology leadership. We collaborated with multiple stakeholders to build an innovative framework on a solid foundation, accelerating the journey toward a more sustainable future.”

The EPEAT 2.0 evaluation criteria cover four core aspects:

  • Climate Change Mitigation (CCM): greenhouse gas reduction targets, renewable energy usage ratio, product life cycle carbon footprint data
  • Sustainable Resource Utilization (SUR)Material circular design, recycled material usage ratio, packaging source management
  • Reduce chemicals of concern (COC)Hazardous Chemical Alternatives, Process and Coating Safety Assessment
  • Responsible Supply Chain (RSC)Labor rights, occupational safety and health, and conflict minerals procurement management

EPEAT 2.0 is currently in transition. EPEAT 1.0 product registrations will close on July 1, 2026, and all products must complete the EPEAT 2.0 transition by July 1, 2027.

Prestige 13 AI+ Evo A2VMG: Sustainable Engineering in a 0.99kg Body

To achieve EPEAT 2.0 Silver certification, products must provide data-backed evidence in areas such as carbon footprint, energy efficiency, and supply chain transparency. The Prestige 13 AI+ Evo A2VMG’s approach is not a single-point breakthrough but rather a comprehensive integration of four major sustainability criteria into the product development process.

In terms of climate change mitigation, this laptop incorporates highly energy-efficient processors and battery configurations. Through hardware and software power management optimization, it meets and exceeds ENERGY STAR Typical Energy Consumption (TEC) standard limits, while also controlling the production process to reduce the carbon footprint during the initial product lifecycle stage.

In terms of sustainable resource utilization, the chassis employs semi-solid injection molding with Advanced Thixomolding Technology (ATT) magnesium-aluminum alloy process, keeping the total weight at 0.99 kg while reducing material waste and processing energy consumption from the source. Additionally, the chassis increases the proportion of post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic, and packaging uses paper materials from FSC-certified suppliers, ensuring that material sources are properly regulated.

For chemical substance management, the material selection and surface coatings of the Prestige 13 AI+ Evo A2VMG have been carefully evaluated. Components and manufacturing processes comply with EPEAT restrictions on chemicals of concern, while safer chemical alternatives are assessed, balancing lightweight design with environmental safety.

Supply Chain Management: From Conflict Minerals to Labor Rights

One of the key differences between EPEAT 2.0 and its predecessor is the expansion of the evaluation scope from the product itself to the entire supply chain. MSI has been deepening its collaboration with suppliers for key components of the Prestige 13 AI+ Evo A2VMG, including the magnesium-aluminum alloy chassis and high-capacity battery pack.

In responsible mineral sourcing, MSI requires suppliers to source tantalum, tin, tungsten, gold (3TG), and cobalt from third-party verified conflict-free smelters. Additionally, MSI has established a standardized supplier code of conduct and conducts regular audits and risk assessments on key suppliers regarding labor rights, occupational health and safety, and environmental protection.

SBTi Science-Based Decarbonization Pathway: 80% Scope 1 and 2 Reduction by 2035

Behind the Prestige 13 AI+ Evo A2VMG certification lies MSI’s overarching climate strategy. MSI’s carbon reduction pathway has been validated by SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative), with a commitment to achieve an 80% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by the end of 2035, along with absolute Scope 3 reduction targets, steadily progressing toward net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Cai Weixin further pointed out: “Looking ahead, we will use SBTi scientific carbon reduction as our cornerstone, transforming this new international environmental standard into the core DNA of our procurement and supply chain management, working alongside our upstream and downstream partners for a steady transition.”

EPEAT 2.0 Race Begins: Dell and HP Already Ahead, MSI Joins Initial List

When EPEAT 2.0 was released in December 2025, the first registered products came from Dell Technologies, HP, and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.[3] HP has also obtained EPEAT 2.0 Gold and Climate+ certification. In this context, MSI joined as a Launch Partner, representing a Taiwanese brand securing a leading position on the international sustainability certification track.

MSI stated that in the future, it will expand its EPEAT 2.0 certified product line to cover more business and gaming laptops. This year marks MSI’s 40th anniversary. From its origins in gaming hardware to its current expansion into AI PCs, business solutions, and AIoT, sustainability is becoming the brand’s core strategic direction for the next forty years.
