Google Maps brings new experiences to the Apple ecosystem, and both Apple Watch and CarPlay have new ways to play
Speaking of Google Maps, or should I say Google, it is really very thoughtful about operating iOS users. In fact, the Google Maps app supporting Apple smart watches was launched as early as 2015. However, Google followed the trend and canceled support in this area as many developers withdrew from Apple Watch application support. Until today, in the Google Maps update that brings a better navigation experience to the Apple ecosystem, watchOS support has officially announced its return.
According to the latest post on Google’s official blog, their cross-platform map application Google Maps will bring new experiences to Apple CarPlay and watchOS in recent weeks. The former basically introduces split-screen multitasking support for CarPlay, allowing you to more fully utilize the large screen of the car’s central control screen for multitasking operations, without having to jump to other screens to confirm items such as itinerary.

The functions supported by watchOS actually look very similar to the 2015 version, but the interface has been slightly adjusted. The main usage scenario should be to take over the itinerary that has been planned on the iPhone and conduct staged navigation in the form of cards—according to the official description, this time it can navigate by walking, car, bicycle, and public transportation. In addition to continuing the current itinerary, the homepage section also provides buttons for the estimated “travel time” between home and work.

Google Maps finally returns to watchOS. This update has not yet been seen in the App Store (it is expected to arrive in a few weeks), but I believe that the return of Apple Watch support should make many friends who heavily use the Google Maps service happy. I look forward to seeing it in the watchOS application list again after the recent update!
