Recently on a foreign Reddit forum, a netizen shared a hidden YouTube trick. You don’t need to install any plug-ins or tools. You only need to add a . to the URL to become ad-free and watch videos directly. In actual testing, it is indeed feasible. I will share it with you here. But first of all, it is recommended to watch the ads to support the creators, and just treat this technique as a fun experiment.
Yesterday on the Reddit forum, a unicorn4sale shared a powerful hidden trick to make YouTube ad-free. As long as you change the YouTube URL, you can become ad-free and watch videos directly. Here is an example he gave:
- The URL of the original video with advertisements:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuB8VUICGqc
- Become an ad-free URL:https://www.youtube.com./watch?v=DuB8VUICGqc
You can notice that the ad-free URL has an extra “.” after youtube.com, which means it only works on desktop browsers.
Take the GQ video as an example. When you open the normal channel to watch the video, ads will appear. You have to wait a few seconds to skip it, or watch it all before you can watch the video:
After adding . after .com, it will be reorganized into a “not logged in” YouTube page, and the video will indeed become ad-free and can be watched directly:
Try another MKBHD Teslas video. When you open it normally, ads will appear:
After adding ., it will be rearranged into a brand new YouTube non-login screen, and the video will have no ads:
When I tried the YouTube mobile web page, I don’t know why, no matter whether I watch most YouTube videos in Safari or Chrome, there seem to be no ads? So there is no way to test it, so this part is for readers to try on their own.
I guess this hidden trick is a YouTube bug, and it should be fixed soon. I didn’t expect anyone to discover this trick (who on earth would be so boring as to add a . at the end).
