Which microphone performs best when filming YouTube videos? Actual test of recording sound quality with various microphones!

A while ago, I did a simple unboxing of a Bluetooth radio microphone. At that time, a friend asked me if I should do a few more control groups at the same time so that everyone could have a reference. It just so happened that I also spent a lot of money in order to improve my filming skills, and I also had some simple insights. I wanted to do a simple analysis and comparison, so that everyone can understand which radio device is the most suitable for them. If you really want to shoot good videos, seriously, don’t save money on the microphone (it doesn’t have to be expensive, just find the solution that suits you best).

Recording quality is a big PK

First of all, in order to make the competition fair, I set the conditions to the most commonly used recording tool “mobile phone” by ordinary people, and what I chose is iPhone 11 Pro MAX, the main reason is that its recording quality is good, it supports 4K recording, and it is generally used by many people. If it is an Android phone, the flagship phone is generally as good as the iPhone in taking pictures, but when it comes to video focus, I would say the iPhone has the most stable focusing performance. For Android, I recommend the Samsung S10+, because the focusing performance is not inferior to the iPhone, and it has a 3.5mm headphone jack, which means the least investment for radio and the best expandability. As for other models, Note 10 also performs well (Mate30 Pro also performs very well, but it is not sold in Taiwan so I won’t discuss it):

The first recording device tested this time is the wired AVerMedia “directional microphone”. Remember to use a dedicated line if you want to connect a mobile phone. The annoying thing about recording with iPhone is that you have to buy a special recording cable for the phone (about 5 to 600 yuan) and a 3.5mm to Lightning cable. You have to buy the version that includes radio, otherwise you will spend money in vain.. If your Android phone does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack, you will also need to buy a TYPE-C to 3.5mm adapter cable, and pay attention to compatibility (so you know why I say the 3.5mm headphone jack is very important, right?):

The wireless radio MIC part has external wireless recording equipment.Rode Wiress Go”, you also need a dedicated recording cable for your mobile phone (about 5 to 600 yuan) and a Lightning cable:

The other one was introduced by Ada just now. SmartMike+, this is a pure Bluetooth MIC that can record video directly by connecting to a mobile phone via Bluetooth:

The last comparison is Tone, which is an ordinary Bluetooth headset. Apple AirPods ProUnder normal circumstances, this kind of Bluetooth headset cannot be used as a radio device, but because of the FilMic Pro, it can also be used as an emergency radio MIC (in principle, all Bluetooth headsets can be used):

Finally, I recommend that if you are determined to use your mobile phone to do “video recording”, if you don’t buy a single-lens camera, you should at least invest in a “FilMic Pro” to use. It has to be paid for, but it is definitely worth it, because in addition to its powerful functions (Read this introduction, not a broadcast editor), it also allows you to manually select various radio sources. There will also be a volume bar next to the screen to let you confirm whether there is any problem with the radio. Otherwise, if you don’t receive the sound after recording for a long time, you will feel like dying:

Next, let’s just watch our PK comparison video. Which one do you think performs best? Welcome to leave a message under the video to tell us (Please subscribe to the channel + turn on the little bell):

After watching the above test video, Ada makes a simple conclusion:

1. Mobile phone radio: The effect is the worst. Environmental sound and wind noise are very obvious. Unless the distance is close enough, the radio quality is not good.
2. Point to the MIC: The indoor radio effect is good, but outdoor radio is greatly affected by wind noise and requires various external cables.
3. Rode Wireless Go: The best radio, but the highest price and also requires an external cable.
4.SmartMike+: The most convenient to use, you can record after pairing, but the sound quality is not good enough (a problem with the product itself, I will try other products if I have the chance), so it cannot be used during live broadcasts.
5. AirPods Pro (general Bluetooth headsets): The sound quality is only better than that of mobile phones, but it can still be used after post-production adjustments. It cannot be used during live broadcasts, but it can be used in emergencies without a MIC.

Among them, the pointing MIC and Rode, which require external cables (two more), are of better quality, but there are too many wires connected, and sometimes there will be poor contact during recording, and the entire video will be ruined, which is very painful. Therefore, there are only better solutions but not perfect solutions. Please choose a group according to your own needs and use it when recording!
