Google AI Studio Introduces Custom URLs Feature: Say Goodbye to Ugly Cloud Run URLs, Deploy Apps with Your Own Brand Identity

Google AI Studio officially launched the “Custom URLs” feature on July 11, 2026, allowing applications deployed from AI Studio to say goodbye to the long and ugly auto-generated URLs from Cloud Run, and instead get a clean, memorable custom subdomain.

Google AI Studio launches custom URL feature

The Google AI Studio team announced on their official X account: “introducing custom URLs: give your deployed apps a permanent, personalized home with a clean, memorable ai studio domain —— because your apps deserve an identity”. This update is seen by outsiders as a key milestone for Google AI Studio’s transition from a “developer tool” to a “product launch platform”, because it directly solves the most headache-inducing sharing problem creators face after vibe coding.

Old pain point: Ugly Cloud Run URLs

Before this feature was released, applications deployed from AI Studio would get a Cloud Run auto-generated URL by default, with a format like this:https://burning-man-animal-cuddle-614365371127.us-west1.run.app/While these URLs technically function normally and work properly, they are completely unsuitable for product pages, social media, or business cards.

The root of this problem lies in Google AI Studio’s ability to let users deploy full-stack applications with one click directly from Build Mode, offering a shortcut from prototype to scalable production, but the finish line is always a bit rough. The infrastructure side is handled well, yet the “identity” aspect gets overlooked.

New Solution: Dedicated ai.studio Subdomain

According to Google’s official deployment documentation, the “Custom URL” feature allows users to set a concise, easy-to-remember subdomain when publishing an application, with the URL format being https://your-app-name.ai.studioUsers can select a name themselves and configure it when publishing.

However, there are several important limitations of this mechanism to be aware of.

  • Globally uniqueSubdomains must be globally unique across all projects. Google AI Studio uses a first-come, first-served allocation method. If the selected name is already taken by another project, the system will prompt the user to choose again.
  • Release mechanismWhen a user unpublishes or deletes an application, the original subdomain is released and can be claimed by other users.
  • Transfer restrictionWant to transfer an existing subdomain to another application? You must first unpublish or delete the application currently using that domain, then republish it with the new application.
  • Regulatory complianceCustom subdomains must comply with Google’s Terms of Service. If users find that a custom URL involves trademark infringement or unauthorized use of copyrighted names, they can report it through Google Legal Troubleshooter.

In other words, users don’t just receive a URL—they get a permanently preservable, reassignable named resource. This gives AI Studio-deployed applications product-brand-level recognition for the first time.

Before this feature was released, there were only two options for giving your AI Studio-deployed app a clean URL: either live with that long, ugly URL, or go through the full “DNS dance” process—pushing code to GitHub, importing it into Vercel or Cloud Run, then manually configuring DNS records. The custom URL feature is directly integrated into the AI Studio publishing workflow, so users can get a shareable, branded URL without leaving the familiar interface. This is especially important for vibe coding creators who only know how to write prompts and aren’t familiar with infrastructure.

Design Logic in the Vibe Coding Wave

This update fits into Google’s broader vibe coding strategy. In 2026, Google AI Studio significantly strengthened Build Mode and one-click deployment features, paired with the latest Gemini 3.5 model and Nano Banana vision model, enabling creators to build functional applications from a text description in just a few minutes.

But there’s always been a gap between “being able to build it” and “being able to share it.” Google has already paved the way from prompt to prototype to a scalable production environment, but the stretch from “I can use this myself” to “others can find my work through a nice URL” remains empty.

Custom URLs fill this gap. When a creator makes an interesting app with AI Studio, they can now directly share it on social media https://my-cool-app.ai.studioNo longer need to paste cloud server code snippets. This genuinely helps promote the vibe coding culture and accelerate the adoption of AI-native applications.

Things users should note

While the functionality is quite convenient, creators interested in using it should pay particular attention to a few points.

  • Snag names fastSubdomains are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so popular names (such as common words or well-known brands) get grabbed quickly. We recommend setting your brand name from the start and deploying as early as possible.
  • Retention PolicyIf a subdomain is important to your brand, never unpublish it casually. Once it’s released, someone else can claim it.
  • Infringement riskDon’t use brand names or registered trademarks. Google provides a reporting mechanism, so getting reported and taken down is only a matter of time.
  • Cross-project restrictionGoogle AI Studio requires subdomains to be globally unique, across projects and users alike. While this protects brand identity, it also means you can’t use the same subdomain in different projects.
