You no longer have to go around and guess the location. In addition, Apple has also extended the precise search experience to Apple Watch. As long as it is a model after Apple Watch Series 9 or Ultra 2, you can start precise search directly on the watch, using vibration and direction prompts to guide you to the location of the item, so you don’t have to keep pulling out your phone to find something.
The Bluetooth connection distance has also been upgraded simultaneously, allowing it to be detected by the “finding” network at a longer range. Even if the item leaves the vicinity of your phone, as long as other Apple devices pass by nearby, the location can be transmitted back in an encrypted manner, allowing you to see the last location on the map.
Another practical upgrade is volume. The speaker volume of the new version of AirTag is about 50% higher than that of the previous generation, and the beeps can be heard at up to twice the distance. In addition to finding it faster, another important feature of the new version of AirTag is “sharing item location”. This feature is specially designed for people traveling abroad. When luggage is delayed or temporarily cannot be found, the location of the AirTag can be temporarily shared with a trusted third party, such as airline customer service staff. Apple has partnered with more than 50 airlines to help retrieve luggage through secure links.
According to statistics from aviation system provider SITA, after using shared item locations, baggage delays are reduced by about 26%, and the proportion of luggage that cannot be found is reduced by 90%. Moreover, the sharing permission is temporary and will automatically stop after the item is retrieved. It can also be closed manually at any time. The link will expire for up to 7 days, and the privacy control is quite complete.
In terms of security, Apple still maintains AirTag’s consistently high standards. All positioning data is end-to-end encrypted. AirTag itself does not store location records, and the device assisting in positioning cannot know the identity of the owner. The system also has built-in protection against inappropriatetrackMechanism, including cross-platform reminders and constantly changing Bluetooth identifiers, to prevent them from being used to track others.
In terms of price, the new version of AirTag remains the same as the previous generation, priced at NT$990 for a pack and NT$3,390 for a pack of four, and provides free engraving services.
