Today, as the mobile projector market becomes more and more competitive, most products often have to choose between “size”, “brightness” or “sound effects”. but soundcore Nebula P1 smart phone launched by NebulaProjector, but trying to redefine the experience of using mobile projectors with completely different thinking.
This small projector, which looks like a boutique speaker, not only has 1080P true resolution, 650 ANSI lumens brightness, built-in Google TV with official Netflix, and also incorporates the world’s first 20W magnetic separate speaker design, allowing users to truly create a stereo surround sound field for the left and right channels.
Coupled with designs such as a 130° flipping pan/tilt, autofocus, automatic keystone correction, USB-C power supply, etc., the Nebula P1 has almost all the “functions that a mobile projector should have.” This article will take you fromUnboxingLet’s start by taking a closer look at this monster-level micro projector that combines audio-visual entertainment with mobile use.

Foreword: Not an ordinary projector, but a “mobile audio-visual theater”

If you have played with many projectors, you will find that each one has its own strengths. Some focus on high brightness, some focus on ultra-small size, and some focus on smart systems or entertainment functions. However, it is not easy to take into account picture quality, sound effects, portability and smart system at the same time. The Nebula P1, which I unboxed Soundcore today, is a product that clearly wants to break through the existing framework. Nebula is actually a brand under Anker that specializes in projection equipment, while soundcore is famous for its headphones and audio products. The Nebula P1 launched this time can be said to be the result of the combination of the two brands’ technologies. The core concept is: to create a true “audio-visual integration” mobile theater. It’s not just a projector, it’s more like a complete entertainment system.
The most eye-catching design is the world’s first magnetically separated speaker. The two speakers can be detached from the body and placed left and right to instantly transform into a real stereo system. This concept has almost never appeared in the projector market. Coupled with 1080P true resolution (supporting 4K decoding), 650 ANSI lumens brightness, 130° gimbal, Google TV system, and official Netflix certification, the overall specifications are actually very complete.

Next, let’s start with unboxing and take a look at the overall design and actual use experience of Nebula P1.

The packaging design of Nebula P1 continues the brand’s consistent simple style. After opening the package, you can see neatly arranged products and accessories.

In addition to the projector body, the box also contains a 100W USB-C power adapter, USB-C power cord, and smart remote control, along with the batteries and documentation required for the remote control. The overall number of accessories is not large, but it actually covers everything needed for daily use.

Directly giving Anker a 100W USB-C power adapter is quite sincere.

The remote control buttons provided with Nebula P1 are quite simple but practical. In addition to the basic power button, direction/confirm, home page, volume, mute, settings, and return, it is also equipped with shortcut keys for Google voice search, YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video.

Let me first talk about a small detail that I think is a very plus point, that is, the remote control has a backlight design. Many people may think this is nothing, but in fact, the usage situation of projectors is different from that of TVs. Projectors are usually used in relatively dim environments, maybe even outdoors during camping or night activities. If the remote control does not have a backlight, it will actually be a bit troublesome to find the buttons. The backlight of Nebula P1’s remote control will automatically turn on as soon as you pick it up or press a button, which is very convenient to use.

Appearance design: Not like a projector, more like a boutique speaker

The appearance design of Nebula P1 is actually quite different from traditional projectors. When you first see it, it is easy to mistake it for a high-quality audio product. The fuselage adopts a design that combines a cloth grille with a metal structure. It looks quite simple and modern, and will not look out of place whether it is placed in the living room, bedroom or study.

An integrated carrying handle is designed on the top of the fuselage. This design may seem simple, but it is very convenient in actual use. The entire projector can be carried with one hand and moved easily, whether it is moved from the living room to the bedroom or taken outdoors for camping.

In terms of connections, Nebula P1 has a complete port configuration, including HDMI 2.1, USB-A, 3.5mm headphone jack and USB-C power interface. You can connect to a game console or computer through HDMI, such as PS5 or Switch, and you can play directly on the big screen. USB-A can be inserted into a flash drive to play videos or photos, and the usage scenarios are quite diverse.

The large area of heat dissipation holes on the body allows the Nebula P1 to maintain stable performance even during long-term operation.

It is worth noting that Nebula P1 uses USB-C power supply design, which is actually not common among projector products. The advantage of using USB-C is that it can be used with a laptop or mobile phone charger, and can be powered by a high-power mobile power supply even when used outdoors.

The world’s first magnetic detachable speaker: the biggest breakthrough in mobile projectors

In general projector designs, the speakers are usually fixed inside the fuselage. Even if they are advertised as stereo, they only emit sound from the same position, so the sense of space is relatively limited. Nebula P1 breaks this traditional design and is equipped with a magnetically separated speaker on the top of the fuselage.

The two speakers can be detached from the fuselage and fixed through magnetic suction and latch structures.

After being detached, it can be freely placed on the left and right sides, such as on both sides of the sofa or on the table, to create a true 2.0 stereo sound field in an instant. The total output power of these two speakers is 20W, which is quite good. The volume performance is enough to meet the needs of general living room or bedroom movie viewing, and the low frequency also has a certain thickness and does not appear thin.

This kind of design is especially interesting when watching movies or games. For example, when the plane in the picture flies from the left to the right, the sound will also move with the picture, significantly improving the overall immersion. Compared with the single-point sound effect of traditional projectors, the sound positioning of Nebula P1 is clearer and more natural.

What’s more, the speaker itself has a built-in battery that can provide up to about 20 hours of battery life. When the speaker is reinstalled into the projector body, the projector will also charge the speaker while supplying power, so there is little need for additional power management during daily use.

If you need to use the speakers separately, they also support USB-C charging, making them quite flexible to use.

130° flipping pan/tilt: easy to project without a tripod

One of the most practical features of the Nebula P1 body is the built-in 130° flipping gimbal.

It can be completely stored in the body and looks very simple.

But when you need to use it, you just need to flip it open and you can freely adjust the projection angle.

You can project on walls, ceilings, angled walls, or even watch movies directly on the ceiling while lying in bed.

This kind of flexibility is actually very important in mobile projectors. Of course, if you really need it, the bottom of Nebula P1 also provides a standard 1/4-inch tripod hole, which can be used with a tripod. But to be honest, the built-in stand is just fine in most situations.

Equipped with auto-focus and auto-keystone correction functions, when the projection angle changes, the system will automatically adjust the image within a few seconds to keep the image square and clear.

This design greatly lowers the threshold for using the projector, and even users who are new to projection equipment can quickly complete the settings.

True 1080P picture quality, support 4K decoding and 650 ANSI lumens brightness

In terms of image quality, Nebula P1 uses 1080P true resolution (supports 4K decoding) and has a brightness of 650 ANSI lumens. This brightness is actually quite good among mobile projectors.

It’s worth noting that the Nebula P1 is rated in ANSI lumens. This is a relatively strict brightness test standard that requires measuring multiple points in a standard optical environment and calculating the average, so it can better reflect the actual brightness performance.

In actual use, it can still maintain good clarity and color performance when watching videos in low-light environments. If you close the curtains or turn off the lights, the picture details and contrast will be even better.

Nebula P1 officially states that it can project a maximum screen size of 180 inches. However, the actual projection size will still be affected by ambient light and projection distance. In low-light environments, the recommended projection size is about 60 to 80 inches and the distance is about 1.6 to 2.1 meters. If it is an indoor environment with curtains drawn, it can be increased to 100 to 120 inches, and the distance is about 2.7 to 3.2 meters. In a completely dark environment, you can try a large screen of 150 to 180 inches.

Intelligent adaptability to the environment

Nebula P1 utilizes the one-click image correction function on the remote control, automatic space adaptation, picture adaptation, movement and zoom functions. It also has pan and tilt adjustment functions to help users find the best projection angle. The visual adaptation function only needs to use photos of the mobile phone area. P1 will quickly detect obstacles on the screen or wall, and automatically adjust the image to fit the screen size or avoid obstacles.

In addition, the projector supports optical zoom with a throw ratio of 0.9-1.5, providing a lossless zoom experience.

There is also a thoughtful function called “Preset”, which allows you to save the current screen size and position of the projector as a preset group. Next time the projector is placed in the same position, you can apply this preset group with one click without having to adjust the projector again.

Nebula P1 thoughtfully supports eye protection function. When it detects someone walking in front of the projector, it will automatically reduce the brightness to protect your eyes, ensuring safe and comfortable viewing.

Google TV system and entertainment content

Nebula P1 has a complete Google TV system built-in, and its interface and operation are very intuitive.

The biggest advantage is that it supports official Netflix certification and allows you to watch movies, dramas and shows on the Netflix platform.

In addition, it also supports common streaming video platforms such as YouTube, Disney+, LINE TV, friDay Video, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, MyVideo, Hami Video, LiTV, HBO Max, and Spotify. For users who like to binge-watch dramas or watch sports events, they can enjoy complete entertainment content directly without the need for additional equipment.

The test period coincided with the WBC World Baseball Classic, so I used Nebula P1 to watch the exciting events broadcast by Hami Video.

Google TV also supports Chromecast wireless projection. Screens from mobile phones or tablets can be quickly projected to the big screen, and the operation is very intuitive.

Conclusion

From the overall experience, the soundcore Nebula P1 is indeed a very special mobile projector. Its biggest innovation is the magnetically separated speaker design, which successfully solves the long-standing problem of insufficient sound effects in portable projectors. Through the configuration of left and right channels, the immersion when watching movies is significantly improved, making the overall experience closer to a real home theater. In addition, Nebula P1 also performs well in terms of image quality, brightness, smart system and operational convenience. The 1080P resolution and 650 ANSI lumens brightness are enough to meet most home viewing needs, and Google TV and Netflix certifications make entertainment content simple and straightforward.
If you are looking for a projector that is easy to carry and can provide a complete audio-visual entertainment experience, the Nebula P1 is undoubtedly a choice worth considering. Judging from the products currently on the market, it not only has complete specifications, but also provides new usage ideas in terms of design and innovation.
