iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold models revealed! Folding iPhone may not have MagSafe

Recently, whistleblower Sonny Dickson released a set of model photos of the iPhone Fold and iPhone 18 Pro series. Although they are just so-called dummy machines, judging from the appearance proportions and detailed configuration, the design direction of this fall’s product line can be roughly restored.
This type of model machine usually leaks out in the early stage of mass production. Its main purpose is to provide accessories factories to make protective cases or peripherals, so it is often quite accurate in size and appearance. Judging from past experience, when the original models of the iPhone 17 series were exposed, there was almost no big difference in the actual models, so the credibility this time is relatively high.
As you can see from the photos, the iPhone Fold adopts a book-style folding design, and its appearance is similar to the folding phones currently on the market, but the overall lines are more in line with Apple’s consistent simple style. There are not many decorations on the front and back designs, and they still follow a low-key route.

The most eye-catching thing this time is that there is no MagSafe magnetic ring on the back of the iPhone Fold. Comparing the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max that were exposed at the same time, it can be clearly seen that the back still retains the familiar circular magnetic design, which is the MagSafe system currently used by iPhone users every day. Whether it is charging, magnetic holders or accessories ecology, they are all highly dependent on this design.
But the iPhone Fold doesn’t have this circle at all, which means it may not support MagSafe.
This is actually consistent with the previous revelations of CAD drawings, and this model machine further verified this direction. In other words, this is not a single piece of news, but the result of multiple revelations.

Why take away MagSafe? Thickness may be key

According to past rumors, the iPhone Fold is only about 4.5mm thick when unfolded, which is even thinner than the current ultra-thin iPhone Air. To achieve such a body thickness, it is necessary to greatly compress the space in the internal structure. Since the MagSafe module itself requires a certain thickness and magnet arrangement space, if the body design is too extreme, it may not be able to accommodate the system.

In other words, Apple is likely to make a choice between “extreme thinness and lightness” and “full functionality”, and currently it seems that iPhone Fold has chosen the former.

In comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models look much more familiar. There is still a large camera module on the back, and the MagSafe magnetic ring is retained below. The overall design continues the style of recent years. Although there is no obvious appearance revolution, this also means that Apple has chosen to steadily evolve the Pro series instead of making drastic changes.
Another detail is that the two Pro models also have embossed serial numbers, showing that their models are closer to mass production specifications, while the iPhone Fold does not have this design, which to some extent also implies that its development progress may still be in the adjustment stage.
