In an era of rapid digital advancement, Google continues to experiment with integrating AI into everyday life and exploring ways to give users more lifelike experiences in virtual worlds. Starting with features like virtual makeup, virtual shoe try-ons, and virtual clothing try-ons in Google Meet video calls, Google has shown its ambition to use AI to enhance interactivity and convenience. It even introduced an experimental app called Doppl, which lets users try on various virtual outfits on their animated avatars, further blurring the line between the virtual and the real.

Google Photos will become your AI wardrobe, helping you plan your daily outfits.

Today, Google is once again pushing this concept to new heights, with the latest version of Google Photos officially introducing a brand-new “Digital Closet” feature. The core goal of this feature is to use AI technology to automatically organize and preserve clothing items that have appeared in users’ past photos, creating a personalized AI wardrobe. In other words, the clothes you once wore are no longer just a fleeting moment in a photo, but can be fully recorded in digital form and browsed, styled, and shared in the app at any time.

This digital wardrobe works quite intuitively. Google Photos analyzes users’ past photos, identifies clothing items in them, and organizes them by category. For example, the system can categorize individual pieces such as jewelry, tops, bottoms, shoes, and hats, allowing you to quickly find what you are looking for in the AI wardrobe. This design not only makes it easy for users to rediscover clothes they may have long forgotten, but also helps you plan your daily outfits more efficiently.

Beyond browsing and filtering, Google Photos’ wardrobe feature also offers more creative ways to use your clothes. Users can freely mix and match different items to create a variety of looks, and save these combinations to “mood boards.” The concept of mood boards is like a digital style lookbook: you can create dedicated boards for different occasions, such as summer weddings, international travel, everyday workwear, or even weekend casual outfits. With this feature, users can quickly browse their existing styling inspirations before heading out, reducing the daily dilemma of “what should I wear today.”

What’s even more exciting is that Google Photos has also added a “virtual try-on” feature, allowing you to preview how different items match through the app before actually putting on clothes. Simply select items like jackets, jeans, sunglasses, shoes, or hats, and the system will generate a simulated view so you can see how the overall look comes together. This design not only improves users’ decision-making efficiency but also makes the styling process more fun.

According to GoogleThis wardrobe feature will begin rolling out gradually this summer, first on Android devices before expanding to iOS later. Users can access it through the “Collections” tab in the Google Photos app. As this feature involves generative AI, there is also public attention on how Google will implement privacy protection measures after launch to ensure users’ photos and personal information are not misused.
