According to foreign media reports,Google Already started testing dedicated to Mac It has built a standalone Gemini app and revealed it will feature a new capability called “Desktop Intelligence.” However, it’s currently unclear whether a Windows version will be released.

BloombergEarlier reports indicate that Google has quietly pushed early test versions of the Gemini app for Mac to some external testers. Google has also told these testers that the current version only includes key features from other platforms, not all of them—in other words, it’s not yet a full-featured release.
Based on known information, the interface design of this Mac app is similar to the existing iPhone and iPad versions, with core features including: web search, document analysis and upload, conversation history saving, and generation of content such as images, tables, charts, videos, and music.
And the most notable feature this time around is “Desktop Intelligence.” According to the app’s code, this feature allows Gemini to “see what’s on your screen and pull information directly from the app you’re using” to provide more accurate, personalized responses.
Simply put, Gemini can understand what you’re currently doing and help you based on what’s on your screen—no need to manually upload images or videos anymore. Of course, you can also choose which apps you want to enable this permission for.
My guess is it should be similar to the Share Screen feature in Gemini Live on Google AI Studio:
As early as late November 2025, Google’s product lead Logan Kilpatrick publicly stated that Google is making massive investments in the Gemini App, pushing forward the so-called “UX 2.0” comprehensive redesign plan, and confirmed that a native macOS application is in development, though no specific launch timeline was disclosed at the time:
Google has yet to announce an official release date for the Mac version of the Gemini app. However, since it’s already entered external testing, that suggests the public release shouldn’t be too far off. Foreign media outlets speculate that the most likely timeframe would be between May and September 2026, and the Google I/O 2026 developer conference held on May 19–20 seems like a fitting occasion to announce the official launch.
As for Windows, there’s still no word yet, though it’s expected to follow as well, just behind Mac.
