A foreign CS2 streamer claimed that the graphics card burned out after detonating 100,000 grenades in the game?

Generally speaking, when playing “Counter-Strike 2”, most of them are to experience the exciting gun battles, but recently the well-known Russian live streamer StRoGo conducted an extreme test in CYBERSHOKE’s CS2 custom server, placing more than 100,000 grenades in one go, and then detonating them at the same time.

Unexpectedly, after the explosion, the game screen was instantly stuck and the live broadcast video disappeared. StRoGo later claimed that the graphics card had been scrapped, and the outside world speculated based on some e-sports databases that the problem may still be a high-end RTX 5090.

However, as the news spreads more and more, foreign hardware media also discovered that there are many doubts in it, making people somewhat doubt its authenticity.

This incident occurred on July 12, 2026. According to Russian esports media Metaratings report, StRoGo was testing a game command on the CYBERSHOKE community server that would allow dropped grenades to explode after being shot.

The average player might be done testing a few grenades, but StRoGo wanted to take the scale to another level, and ended up piling more than 100,000 grenades on the map.

As can be seen from the leaked live broadcast footage, the map is densely packed with grenades. When all the grenades detonated together, the game screen immediately lost response, the live video then disappeared, and the live broadcast was interrupted shortly after.

This test will cause the game engine to process a large number of explosion effects, particles, light and shadow, sound effects and object states in a very short period of time, which may indeed put the processor, graphics card and memory under very high instantaneous load.

However, StRoGo’s live broadcast left no monitoring data such as CPU, GPU usage, temperature or power consumption. Therefore, it cannot be directly concluded that all hardware had reached 100% at that time. It can only be determined that the game and live broadcast signals were interrupted after the explosion.

After the live broadcast, StRoGo quickly posted a message on his Telegram channel, saying in a very direct tone that the graphics card was “finished.”

A few minutes later, he added another post, saying: “I will buy a new one tomorrow and we will continue.” The next day, he also announced that he would test the new computer in the evening. Therefore, it can be confirmed from these posts that StRoGo claimed that the original graphics card can no longer be used.

In the photo of the charred computer attached to the StRoGo Telegram post, the host in the photo has been severely burned, with obvious signs of fire on the casing and internal parts.

But foreign media VideoCardz Upon inspection, it was noted that the photo was not the computer used by StRoGo during this live broadcast, but an old photo that had nothing to do with the incident. VideoCardz also particularly questioned that since the live broadcast host claimed that the graphics card had failed, why did he not show the real host or graphics card afterwards, but instead attached an irrelevant burnt photo?

The graphics card model is also not determined. Some reports directly wrote RTX 5090 in the title, but VideoCardz stated that there are currently no reports indicating that StRoGo himself announced the announcement. The statement of RTX 5090 mainly comes from StRoGo’s current computer equipment listed in several e-sports databases.

This means that this can only prove that he may be using RTX 5090 in the near future. It cannot prove that the problem with the current live broadcast is this card, nor can it prove that it has been burned.

Will modern computers really be “burned out” by games like this?

It’s not uncommon for games to crash your computer, but “high game load” and “game burning hardware” are two different things.

Processors and graphics cards are designed to operate under high loads, and playing games, running 3D rendering, or performing stress tests can push utilization to near full capacity for extended periods of time. If it burns out normally when fully loaded, then the computer may already have a lot of problems during the verification stage before leaving the factory.

In addition, modern CPUs and GPUs have internal temperature and power consumption monitoring mechanisms. Taking Intel’s official instructions as an example, when the processor temperature exceeds the set threshold, the power consumption and operating clock will be reduced first, which is what players often hear as “downclocking.” If the radiator fails or is installed incorrectly and the temperature cannot be lowered even after frequency reduction, the system will further automatically shut down to avoid permanent damage to the processor.

NVIDIA official documents also point out that when the GPU temperature is higher than the maximum operating range, the software or hardware will first reduce the clock speed, and when the shutdown threshold is reached, the GPU will shut down. It is also mentioned that when the power consumption is too high, the graphics card may be down-clocked due to power limitations or external power supply braking signals.

Of course, this does not mean that computer hardware will not be damaged under high load. If the system already has problems, extreme load may still be the final straw.

VideoCardz and French hardware media Pause Hardware both expressed similar opinions: Assuming that StRoGo’s graphics card is really testing the current fault, it is more likely that this load exposed existing electrical, thermal or stability issues.
