Capcom’s classic survival horror series *Resident Evil* will officially celebrate its 30th anniversary this year, and in addition to the new main series entry *Resident Evil: Requiem*, set to launch in a month, the development team appears to have some surprises in store for fans. As previous rumors have suggested, the latest reports once again indicate that a remastered version of *Resident Evil: Code Veronica* will be released this year.
Earlier this week, Eva La Dare, the voice actress who portrayed “Shiva” in the original *Resident Evil 5*, suddenly posted on her personal social media account that she would be participating in an “interesting project” this March, accompanied by more than a dozen hashtags related to *Resident Evil 5*. This led many players to believe for a time that the announcement of *Resident Evil 5: Remake* was imminent.
However, according to Dusk Golem, a well-known *Resident Evil* leaker, *Resident Evil 5* will not be getting a remake announced in 2026, because the next title on Capcom’s release schedule is actually the *Resident Evil: Code: Virgin* remake, and this leaker is almost 100% certain about this information.
“Later this year, a *Resident Evil* remake that starts with ‘C’ and ends with ‘ode Veronica’ will be announced—I can assure you of that,” he said.indicates
The highly anticipated *Resident Evil: Requiem* has recently unveiled a series of new updates and is set for release on February 27 of this year. Meanwhile, a new *Resident Evil* film directed by Zach Cregger—director of the critically acclaimed 2025 horror film *Weapon*—is scheduled to hit theaters on September 18 of this year. As for *Resident Evil: Code: Virgin Remake*, Dusk Golem speculates that it will be released between these two projects.
As early as 2024, numerous reports had suggested that *Resident Evil: Code: Virgin* and *Resident Evil 0* would both be part of Capcom’s next wave of remakes for the classic *Resident Evil* series, continuing the remake initiative that began with *Resident Evil 2*, *3*, and *4*. It’s worth noting that right after these reports surfaced, Capcom coincidentally forced the removal of a fan-made *Resident Evil: Code: Virgin* remake project, which significantly increased the likelihood that the rumors were true.
A year later, in 2025, another round of reports suggested that Capcom views *Code: Vengeance Remake* as a “mainline title” in the series and will devote significant resources to its development. Given that this year already features the major release *Resident Evil: Requiem*, many players believe Capcom might schedule the *Code: Vena Remake* for a 2027 release, while plans for a *Resident Evil 0* remake may have to wait until 2028. As for the *Resident Evil 5* Remake, it will likely be quite some time before it sees the light of day.
