A Lucky Internet User Received an RTX 5080 Even After Their Amazon Order Was Canceled—and Was Even Able to Keep It for Free
According to a report by the foreign media outlet Tom’s Hardware, a Reddit user named spaceman329 shared his lucky story of getting an RTX 5080 for free on the ASUSROG subreddit.
He mentioned that he had originally ordered this ROG Astral RTX 5080 graphics card on Amazon, but when he found out that Micro Center had it in stock, he decided to cancel the Amazon order, and the order was refunded. However, a few days later, the graphics card still showed up at his doorstep.

At first, he had contacted Amazon to say he was willing to pay for the purchase, but Amazon officials stated that the refund had already been processed—it was their mistake—so this lucky user gets to keep the ROG Astral RTX 5080 graphics card.
Since he had already received a free ROG Astral RTX 5080 graphics card, he returned the one he had bought at Micro Center.
You could say Amazon was being generous in this instance, but in reality, it’s because U.S. laws provide strong protection for consumers that Amazon acted this way.
According to U.S. federal law: “If you receive ‘unordered merchandise,’ the merchant cannot charge you for it, and you are under no obligation to return it; legally, you may accept it as a ‘gift.’”

Similarly, Amazon told him he could keep it without paying anything, meaning he effectively made as much as $4,250—and that was the price at the time; based on current January prices, it might even be more:
