Unexpectedly, the first hardware product OpenAI launched might not be the previously rumored headphones or wearable AI Pin, but rather a physical input device related to Codex.
Recently, OpenAI posted a teaser on social media about a Codex-specific hardware device. Based on the design and brand clues in the teaser video, it appears to likely be a Codex version mini keyboard developed in collaboration with Work Louder.

OpenAI Developers shared a teaser video on social media, writing: “Your favorite Codex shortcuts are getting an upgrade. July 15.”
Currently, OpenAI has only released this video. There are no hardware product pages, pricing, regional availability, or detailed button functions yet, so the only thing known is the launch date. However, based on the video, it appears to be a Codex co-branded/custom version based on the Work Louder Creator Micro 2.
Additionally, the foreign media outlet The Verge earlier reported seeing this product at the AI Engineer World Fair, named Codex Micro. It also cited OpenAI spokesperson Dominik Kundel, saying this is a keyboard designed to enhance the Codex experience:
This also means it currently appears to be not a self-contained AI device, but rather more of a “Codex quick controller” on developers’ desks.
Looks quite good. For those who normally use Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, or other AI coding tools, operation often involves constantly switching between entering prompts, reviewing diffs, accepting changes, rejecting changes, running tests, and opening terminals—all done via mouse and keyboard. If Codex Micro had dedicated physical buttons for quick switching, it could significantly boost efficiency.
Work Louder is a brand that specializes in these types of compact input devices, and the Creator Micro 2 is not a regular keyboard for heavy typing. Instead, it’s a compact macro keypad placed next to your main keyboard, designed for creators, designers, video editors, or developers to quickly execute common operations.
According to the official Work Louder product page, the Creator Micro 2 features 13 keys, 1 joystick, 1 touch-sensitive area, RGB backlighting and underglow effects, and supports multi-layer hotkey settings. The official page also mentions that Micro supports up to 6 layers of settings, with each layer supporting 13 keys, 7 radial menu slots, and dial functionality, allowing users to configure custom shortcuts for different workflows.
As for the potential pricing of the Codex Micro, neither OpenAI nor Work Louder has announced anything yet.
However, you can first refer to the official pricing of the Creator Micro 2: the Base version starts at $144, and the Pro version starts at $174. But if the Codex Micro turns out to be a collaborative or custom version, the actual price, specifications, and sales approach may still differ from the standard Creator Micro 2, so we’ll need to wait until the official reveal on July 15 to get a clearer picture.
