Nowadays, when purchasing a graphics card, unless it is from an officially authorized channel or a store that you trust very much, even if you go to a physical store to pick up the goods, you must record the video and directly open the box for inspection. Recently, a buyer in Russia did this. Fortunately, he discovered that the RTX 5070 Ti graphics card inside had been switched into mineral water directly at the physical pick-up point, and successfully left complete evidence.
I spent 90,000 rubles to buy an RTX 5070 Ti, but when I unboxed it in the store, it turned out to be 2 liters of bottled water.
Russian netizen @oldValkyrie recently shared a friend’s shopping experience on X. The original post states that the Moscow buyer ordered an RTX 5070 Ti graphics card from Wildberries for an asking price of 90,000 rubles (approximately NT$36,700) and decided to unwrap it under the cameras at the pickup point. His alarm turned out to be completely correct.
As you can see from the video, what he got was a white Gigabyte EAGLE series GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, and the outer box was still wrapped with a transparent sealing film. He did not rush to unbox it, but first took pictures of the box body, side labels and packaging status, then removed the sealing film and pulled out the black inner box.
When the top cover is lifted, the foam groove where the graphics card should have been placed becomes a bottle of about 2 liters of bottled water. The outer box model, sealing film and internal foam all look the same, just like new, but the high-priced graphics card inside has been swapped out a long time ago.
After the video was exposed, it quickly spread in the community. Many netizens praised the buyer for his foresight and believed that the video was a textbook demonstration of buying high-priced goods.
However, it is currently impossible to know whether the buyer has received a refund, nor can it be confirmed at which logistics link the graphics card was dropped.
Having said that, the reason why this buyer chose to record the video in the store is actually related to Wildberries’ pick-up regulations.
Wildberries is a large e-commerce platform in Russia. In addition to self-operated products, it also has many third-party sellers and has set up physical pickup points in various places. Consumers can inspect the products at the pick-up point, and can also try on items such as clothes and shoes on-site and return them directly if they are not satisfied.
The handling of electronic products is stricter. In accordance with the “Wildberries Current Consumer Terms”, after electronic devices and other technical goods are delivered to the pick-up point, the platform recommends that consumers first inspect the appearance in front of staff. If you want to reject it directly when picking up the goods, the original or special packaging cannot be opened in principle.
The terms also clearly recommend that when receiving goods, they should be opened and inspected in front of employees or couriers at the pick-up point.
The RTX 5070 Ti purchased by this buyer was ordered from a third-party seller and is not a Wildberries self-operated product.
Graphics card fraud has become more and more rampant in recent years, so if you plan to buy a new graphics card and do not order from an official channel, you must be particularly careful. Whether it is home delivery or picking up the goods at a store, it is best to start shooting with the six sides of the unopened outer box, logistics label, seal and product serial number, and then record the product body in one shot, without pausing or editing in the middle.
Although video recording may not guarantee immediate success in every appeal, it is definitely the most direct and powerful evidence of self-protection when encountering this situation.
