After six months of delays and skepticism, the Trump Mobile T1 smartphone endorsed by US President Donald Trump has finally surfaced again. Recently,The Verge Through video calls, reporters saw with their own eyes what was close to the final version of the real machine. This MAGA mobile phone, which is advertised as “Made in the United States”, has undergone major changes from appearance design to production strategy. Now it seems that it is finally on the road to launch. However, the tortuous journey along the way has also raised questions about the future of this mobile phone.

Trump Mobile T1 delayed by six months, launch time changed again and again

Trump Mobile T1’s road to market has been full of twists and turns. The phone was originally planned to be launched between August and September 2025, then postponed to the end of 2025, and now it has been further delayed to March 2026. The three changes to the listing schedule in just six months not only made consumers who paid the deposit anxious, but also caused doubts about the company’s execution ability.

According to Trump Mobile executives in interviews, the main reasons for the delay include supply chain adjustments, certification procedures and product design modifications. However, frequent ticket bounces have obviously damaged the confidence of some consumers.

Design overhaul: camera module changes from triangular to vertical

One of the biggest highlights of this exposure is that the T1’s exterior design has undergone significant changes. Originally, this phone would use a triangular arrangement of camera modules similar to the iPhone, but in the latest version, the three lenses have been changed to a vertically arranged design, and the lens spacing is uneven. From a visual perspective, this irregular arrangement is in sharp contrast to the symmetrical aesthetics pursued by mainstream flagship mobile phones, and has also triggered polarized evaluations.

Despite this, T1 still retains several highly recognizable design elements: the golden body continues, and the American flag is printed on the bottom. However, it is revealed that the “T1” logo originally printed on the back of the phone will be removed before it is officially launched.

Hardware specifications revealed, targeting the mid- to high-end market

In terms of hardware specifications, T1 is equipped with a 6.8-inch curved screen, equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 series chip, storage space of 512GB, and supports microSD card expansion to 1TB, and battery capacity of 5000mAh. Both the front and rear lenses use 50MP sensors, which may also include ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lens modules. In terms of specifications, this phone falls roughly in the range of mid-to-high-end models, but compared to the top flagships currently on the market, the chip selection is slightly conservative.

In addition, Trump Mobile is rumored to be developing another model with a higher positioning, tentatively named “T1 Ultra”, suggesting that the company intends to build a complete product line.

Pricing strategy causes controversy, early subscribers enjoy discounts

In terms of price, Trump Mobile adopts a tiered pricing strategy. Consumers who pay a $100 deposit early can still enjoy the “introductory price” discount of $499. However, subsequent purchases will cost consumers more, with the maximum price potentially approaching the $1,000 mark.

While this differentiated pricing helps lock in early backers, it also raises questions about fairness. Some netizens questioned whether the subsequent price increase was reasonable and whether the company was taking advantage of Trump’s political aura for excessive premium marketing.

“Made in America” promise delays FTC investigation

The most concerning change is Trump Mobile’s retreat from its “Made in America” commitment. Initially, this phone had a high-profile claim that it would be produced in the United States, with the slogan “MADE IN THE USA”. However, as more details were revealed, the actual situation was different from the propaganda. According to the latest claims, the T1 isn’t actually made in the United States. The main assembly work of the phone is actually completed in a “friendly country” (not China), and only the “final assembly” operation is performed in Miami, which involves the installation of about the last ten parts. This difference in the definition of “Assembled in the United States” rather than “Made in the United States” has put Trump Mobile under investigation pressure from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

In terms of technical certification, Trump Mobile executives Don Hendrickson and Eric Thomas said in a recent interview that T1 has passed certification by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and is currently waiting for T-Mobile’s network compatibility certification, which is expected to be completed in mid-March 2026. Passing the FCC certification means that this phone has complied with official US standards in terms of hardware indicators such as radio frequency emission and electromagnetic compatibility. If the certification process goes smoothly, the day when T1 will actually be launched may not be far away.
