According to the latest report from Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman,Apple Development of three new AIs is accelerating Wearable device:Apple smart glasses, AI pin (Apple Pin), and built-in lens AirPods. All three products will be built around the next generation of Siri and will be deeply integrated with the iPhone, allowing AI to “see” the user’s surroundings and answer relevant questions.

AI production diagram

Apple Smart Glasses: An Ambitious Work to Challenge Meta Ray-Ban

Apple’s smart glasses will directly compete with Meta Ray-Ban and are targeted to be officially released in 2027, with mass production possibly starting as soon as December 2026.

Dual lens design

Unlike Meta’s products, Apple smart glasses will useDual lens system:

  • High-resolution main lens: Capable of taking high-quality photos and videos
  • computer vision lens: iPhone-like LiDAR, which can sense the environment, measure distance, and provide visual context for AI

Features

  • No screen design: The lenses will not have a built-in display, but will interact with Siri via voice.
  • Visual Intelligence: May support visual intelligence functions similar to iPhone 16, such as automatically adding event posters to the calendar
  • Instant translation: Translate by looking at foreign signboards
  • Precise navigation: Provide detailed navigation guidance while walking
  • Context-aware reminders: Trigger reminders based on where you are and what you see

Design and materials

Apple initially considered partnering with existing eyewear brands and even tested embedding the hardware into off-the-shelf frames, but ultimately decidedDesign and manufacture by ourselves. The new prototype has integrated the battery and all components into the frame, uses high-end materials such as acrylic, and focuses on “top quality.” glasses will be launchedVarious sizes and colors, there will be more styles in the future.[2]

Apple Pin: The “eyes and ears” of your iPhone

Apple is developing an AI pin device that employees internally call the “eyes and ears” of the iPhone. The product is somewhat similar to the previously failed Humane AI Pin, but with a few key differences.

Product positioning

  • iPhone accessories: Apple positions it as an iPhone accessory rather than a standalone product (this is one of the main reasons for Humane’s failure)
  • AirTag size: Flat round design, aluminum alloy glass shell
  • brooch or necklace: It can be attached to clothes with a clip, and it also has holes to thread a string and wear as a necklace.

Hardware specifications

  • low resolution lens: Only for AI to perceive the environment and cannot take photos or videos.
  • Always-on Photography: The lens continuously records the surrounding environment
  • microphone: Used to talk to Siri
  • Special chip: Similar to the AirPods chip, with limited functions, most of the calculations are handled by the iPhone
  • Speaker (to be determined): Apple has not yet decided whether to include speakers, which would allow it to talk directly to the device without the need for AirPods

Development progress

Apple Pin is still inearly development stage, may be cancelled. If development continues, it could be launched as soon as 2027.

AirPods with built-in lens: could be launched as soon as this year

Among the three products,AirPods with built-in camera are under development the fastest, which could be launched as soon as 2026.

  • low resolution lens: Similar to Apple Pin, it only allows AI to obtain visual information and cannot take photos.
  • Enhance Siri functionality: Allows Siri to “see” things in front of the user and respond

The next generation of Siri: At the heart of it all

All three wearable devices will be built around “smarter Siri.” Apple is developingConversational Siri(chatbot version), expected to launch in iOS 27. It’s worth noting that this new version of Siri willPowered by AI models developed by Google(Gemini)。

However, the new Siri has experienced multiple delays, and the first beta version of iOS 26.4 did not include the new Apple Intelligence feature, which may affect the actual release time of these wearable devices.

Comparison with competitors

Apple isn’t the only company developing AI wearables:

  • Meta: Ray-Ban smart glasses are already selling well and continue to update AI functions
  • OpenAI: A pen-shaped AI device is reportedly in development, equipped with a microphone and lens
  • Humane: AI Pin failed due to positioning error, and Apple clearly learned from it

Other Apple new product previews

The Bloomberg report also revealed other Apple new product plans:

  • AR glasses: Smart glasses with built-in augmented reality displays will be developed in the future, but they are still several years away from release.
  • Smart home display: Likely to launch later this year
  • Robot arm display: An advanced version equipped with a larger screen and robotic arm, expected in 2027
  • New HomePod: Under development
  • indoor safety sensor: Small sensing devices for home security and automation

point of view

Apple’s layout of this wave of AI wearable devices clearly demonstrates its strategic thinking in the “post-iPhone era”. Rather than trying to build independent AI hardware like Humane, Apple chose to make these wearable devices an extension of the iPhone, which is a relatively more pragmatic approach. Smart glasses have the greatest potential to become the next hot product. The Meta Ray-Ban’s popularity proves that consumers are interested in this type of product, and Apple’s advantages in lens and software integration may make their glasses more attractive.

However, the key to everything is stillWhen will the new version of Siri actually arrive?. If the software continues to lag, even if the hardware is ready, it will not be able to exert its true capabilities. This has been Apple’s biggest shortcoming in the field of AI over the past year, and it is also a key variable in the success of these wearable devices.
