There are now less than two months left until Grand Theft Auto 6 officially launches. However, some impatient players have already started turning prototype map files included in the 200GB leaked files for Grand Theft Auto 5 into mods, giving players a chance to explore an early version of Vice City in Grand Theft Auto 5 ahead of time.

This article does not contain any actual download links, but according to Twitter users Synaptic In the shared footage, players can use this mod to control characters from Grand Theft Auto V and travel to Leonida, the setting of the sequel, to explore, while this series of screenshots showcases fairly early looks at the beach, observation deck, marine park, satellite map, inner city, highways, and more. In addition, it includes some footage that appeared in Netflix’s extended preview, and Synaptic has also made a comparison with the early version.

And all of this is thanks to modders who successfully exported the leaked Grand Theft Auto 6 map data and imported it into Grand Theft Auto 5. But it is obvious that this map is a very early version, and its overall quality is still at a rather rough stage, especially compared with the recently revealed gameplay footage.

Although this type of vegetation is still broadly visible, the overall textures remain very crude, and most of the maps are extremely flat, reminiscent of the most basic city modeling in Google Maps Street View. As players explore further, they can also find that this version of the map really does seem to be at a very early stage. In addition to the most basic roads and coastlines, they can even find floating text labels used by the development team to mark early concept areas.

Even so, this leaked map still showed a rather fascinating early prototype of Grand Theft Auto 6, and by comparison, it also made the final publicly released game visuals and finished product seem even more astonishing.
On the other hand, Synaptic also shared many other interesting details from the 200GB leak, such as a mountain village called “Mount Kalaga,” a parody version of NASA (similar to the FIB and IAA in GTA V), and even a rocket launch site, a museum, and a map of South America. It is worth noting that because this content comes from a fairly early stage of development, it could very likely be added or removed as the game continues development.

Although this leaked map is not a 1:1 recreation of Grand Theft Auto VI’s final map, it still gives fans who have waited a full 13 years a chance to glimpse the past of this major sequel and paves the way for its release on November 19.
