The previously rumored Google-built version of “Openclaw” has indeed made its debut at Google I/O 2026, with the official name “Gemini Spark”: a personal AI agent that performs various actions and tasks based on your instructions. The biggest difference from OpenClaw and Hermes Agent is that Gemini Spark does not run on your computer or phone, but on a Google Cloud virtual machine, operating 24/7. The underlying model is the just-released Gemini 3.5 model.

According to Google, Gemini Spark is built from Gemini 3.5 combined with Google Antigravity’s agentic harness, and paired with Google Cloud virtual machines, allowing Spark to run 24/7 without being interrupted by shutting down your computer or switching apps.
It is already integrated with Google’s own services, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides, Google Drive, and more, so you don’t need to set up permissions one by one. Third-party tools will also be supported gradually over the coming weeks through the MCP standard.
It’s also very easy to use: open the Gemini App, and you’ll see the Spark option on the left. From there, a control panel will list all tasks currently running in the background, so you can tap in anytime to check their progress:
There are three ways to interact with Spark: via prompts in the Gemini App, by sending emails to Spark’s dedicated address, and through chat messages. The latter two will be rolled out over the next few weeks.
Google also showcased several use cases during the event, starting with an office scenario: “Help me draft an email to the team summarizing all the information and results related to the Gemini Live launch over the past week, using /ghostwriter.”
/ghostwriter is a personal skill that Josh wrote himself, so Spark can draft emails in his voice. This also means Spark supports users uploading their own skills. Once Spark receives the command, it automatically pulls relevant content from the past week across Docs, email, and chat, then writes a draft in the /ghostwriter style.
The second one is a community party. The prompt is: “Help me capture all the RSVPs and links, list who’s bringing what, and remind neighbors who haven’t responded yet.”
Spark did three things directly:
- Create a real-time Google Sheets RSVP tracker that syncs with Gmail. When a neighbor replies to confirm attendance, the corresponding row updates automatically, with no manual maintenance needed.
- Draft a reminder email for neighbors who haven’t responded (it’s a draft—you’ll need to send it yourself; it won’t be sent automatically).
- Generate a Google Slides “hype deck”
The third one is done on a phone, using voice: “First, mark all meetings with Sundar pink on my calendar so I don’t miss them; second, I just met my new neighbor John last night—help me write a letter inviting his whole family to the community party; third, organize a list of things my wife and I need to take care of for our kids before the semester ends, sorted by deadline and priority.”
After you finish speaking and tap Send, Spark automatically breaks the spoken request into three independent tasks and runs them simultaneously in the background. Google added that this is the biggest difference between Spark and traditional mobile AI apps: you don’t have to keep the app open all the time:
Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said: “Spark is the next evolution of intelligent digital assistants. It can use agentic AI to handle longer-duration tasks with less oversight from users.”
Google also emphasized that Gemini Spark will ask for your confirmation before executing high-risk actions, such as sending emails, making purchases, or messaging strangers.
Gemini Spark is opening first to trusted testers starting 5/19, with a beta rolling out to Google AI Ultra subscribers in the US next week. To make Spark accessible to more people, Google is also adjusting the AI Ultra subscription plan:
- Newly launched $100-per-month Google AI Ultra starter plan.
- The top-tier Ultra plan has dropped from $249.99 per month to $200.
