As online design platforms such as Canva, Adobe Express, and Microsoft Designer continue to expand their market influence, Google has officially announced the launch of a new AI image creation and editing tool, “Google Pics,” further strengthening its footprint in generative AI and digital creation. The new service will become a key component of the Google Workspace ecosystem and will be available to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers, as well as most Workspace business customers.

Google launches a new generative AI image creation and editing tool called “Google Pics”
The core technology of Google Pics comes from the Nano Banana image generation and editing model on the Gemini platform. Through natural language prompts, users can quickly create posters, flyers, presentation materials, and other visual content, while also being able to make follow-up edits and optimizations to the generated results, significantly lowering the barrier to design and improving content production efficiency.
In addition to operating independently, Google also deeply integrates Pics into the Workspace ecosystem, including Docs, Slides, and future Drive services. This means that when writing documents, creating presentations, or managing cloud files, users can directly use AI for image generation and editing without switching to other design software, further streamlining workflows and boosting productivity.
In terms of feature design, Google places particular emphasis on refined image editing capabilities rather than relying solely on regenerating images. Pics’ built-in object segmentation technology can automatically identify specific elements in an image, allowing users to isolate a single object for operations such as moving its position, resizing it, deleting content, or changing its appearance—all without affecting other parts of the image. This more flexible editing approach lets creators correct details with greater precision and reduces rework.
In addition, Pics also supports region-based text command editing. Users can directly issue modification requests for specific parts of an image and make multiple adjustments at once. Compared to traditional AI image tools that must regenerate the entire image, this localized editing mechanism can more precisely preserve the original design while improving editing efficiency.
Another feature worth noting is the ability to edit text within images. Users can directly modify existing text in an image or even translate it into another language, while the system maintains the original layout, font style, and overall visual consistency. For businesses and teams that need to create multilingual assets, this feature helps reduce the workload of reformatting and accelerates the rollout of content across different markets.
To meet different creative needs, Google Pics can also generate multiple design versions based on the same prompt, letting users compare and choose. By producing multiple style or composition options at once, creators can more quickly find a design direction that suits their needs, further boosting creative efficiency.

For collaboration, Pics carries on Google Workspace’s signature real-time co-editing. Multiple users can work on the same image simultaneously, with all changes updating instantly—eliminating the hassle of managing multiple file versions and making teamwork much smoother.
Google announced that users can now directly use the image generation and editing features of Pics in Docs and Slides, without needing to open a separate application. Integration with Google Drive will also be rolled out in the coming weeks. Through a more integrated Workspace strategy, Google hopes to make AI not just an assistive tool but directly integrated into everyday workflows, helping users complete content creation and visual design tasks more efficiently.
